The Early Internet: there were chatrooms and newsgroups, and freaking AOL cds in every magazine you bought. There was a limit to file sizes in newsgroups, so if you wanted to download a large picture, it might be split into several files; you needed a special program to join them into a picture you could view on your computer. Music sharing was big. People predicted the End of Civilization due to the abundance of pr0n. Dial-up modems, of course, with the ubiquitous electronic pinging of the "handshake." People checked their email once a day--or maybe once a week. (My first computer was an original Apple Macintosh; when I upgraded to a 1Mb hard drive, I was assured I'd never need more than that, lol.) [Sorry, this has nothing to do with growing up with the internet, but I thought maybe some1 would find it interesting.]
