This is the first Book Club pick I can think of where opinions have been so polarized and evenly split, which I find quite interesting. I consider myself a feminist, but had a rather negative reaction to the book that made me wonder if I wasn't really the feminist I think I am, but now idk because a number of people have had similar reactions. And while the tampon scene made me gag a bit, I got through it just fine, so I don't think my reaction is based on prudishness, either. I think folks just like the book or don't. I can agree with Erica V. that the book is well-written, objectively speaking, but I still dislike the narrator (or her actions, at least). Very curious to hear Shawn's take on the book. No doubt he'll find a way to agree with everyone, while secretly hating it but still giving it five stars on goodreads! 😂 <3 :))

The beginning of this book really spoke to me. The smallest of her actions showed how automatically she put other people’s wellbeing before her own without ever deciding to do that, as if it weren’t even a question and those small decisions can pile up over time into something massive. I haven’t finished the book yet so I can’t speak about the ending but in terms of the first half… I’m not saying I condone her actions but I do understand where they’re coming from lmao
