If you’ve ever shared a home with someone who sets off your fight or flight, then you’ll understand the mood of this little poem. Never knowing which version of the person will be coming home at the end of the day. So you end up learning how to read the signs of their mood before they talk to you. There’s no winning. If you approach them meekly in a good mood they’ll ask you “what’s wrong?” And if you approach them jovially on a bad day… well if you know you know.
Don’t forget to share when it’s live 💗

Incredibly beautiful words from an undeniable talent. My goodness, it would bring a tear to a glass eye

That's a beautiful poem, Janet: a wonderful (but sad) depiction of what it feels like to be in an emotionally abusive relationship, when you always have to anticipate the fluctuating moods of your partner. 😢😢😢

Love it! Reminds me of a poem I saved from the poet Rumi “the guest house” (comment from me - each human is one…a container) It ends: “The dark thought, the shame, the malice. Meet them at the door laughing and invite them in. Be grateful for whatever comes. Because each has been sent as a guide from beyond.” ✨

The word 'poignant' comes to mind here. Like a bruise, there is a tenderness that reminds us of what could be or shouldn't be. Powerful poem Janet!

Listening to how hard the front door was closed. If he took the boots of at the door or droppedthem on the chair. If he greated the dogs when he got home. I wouldn't dare speak until i sussed him out. Getting verbally abused for daring to be in a good mood. Dude my ass would get screamed out of the house for laughing on the wrong day. Fun times. You're a damned good writer bud.
