Number of times you use the spell, if it is an AoE spell like Earthquake, it gets the average of the level of all enemies vs yours, whereas if it is a single target spell, it only checks for the target's level vs yours. That means training in Floor 13 is still a good idea because the Excelia Quality there is level 2, so your stats will improve faster.

Is the 300 magic I got the result of the number of times I cast a spell-like firebolt or the number of kills I got using the spell-like earthquake whipping 8 hellhounds?

The fix I did in R15 is to avoid the game storing excelia for each category needlessly, so each excelia category can get a maximum of 1500 (which is the limit anyway). It does not mean 1500 total.

Hm? In R9, there was a visual glitch where it would print you'd have more than the maximum, but it was not true. The stats have never gone beyond 1500, but when Hestia updates your status, the text simply prints "Your current excelia + what you have received", so it can display values over 1500, if you do not like it, I can put an extra check although it will look weird... Something like "Your 1300 stat + 800 excelia is now 1500!" Also, excelia is not distributed around stats... If you want to increase your strength, you need to hit enemies with your dagger, if you want to increase magic, you need to cast spells. Each Excelia has a separate category, one for each stat. The reason why I have decided on 1500 being the maximum for SSS is because it is a good guess of the cap of SSS, and I do need such a cap to be able to balance the game.

Loving the game but, I am frustrated that I see in the changelog of R9 and R15 how you fix the excelia stat not going over 1500 yet. I grind in the dungeon to get 4000 excelia only for 80% of it to go to endurance dexterity and agility when all 3 are already capped at 1500 leaving only 200 and 300 for strength and magic respectively.

Noted down, thanks for reporting the issue. The fix will be retroactive so once you load the game from R16 once it is released, the achievement should show.
