Might be a bit late to the party, but I recently stumbled across the MIDI products from iConnectivity while looking for a handy way to manage and route all our MIDI timecode and cue mess at a theatre. Their mioXL device is 1U and has like 12x DIN I/O plus USB-MIDI and Ethernet connectivity and you can store individual configs with individual routing and even filtering and swapping on a channel base. Just wanted to leave this here... Thanks for the great and detailed video!

Finally got the time to watch this and was not disappointed :) as always, I love all your MIDI videos. On a side note, I recently got a MioXL midi patchbay and while it's probably way overpowered for what you're doing in this case (a pun!) it may be of interest for your other musical pursuits. I got mine racked up but haven't actually had time to hook stuff up or turn it on yet 😬 but I'm very looking forward to it. Basic rundown: it does MIDI patching via DIN, USB, and RTP-MIDI which, yes, connects everything to your network. This was actually my main use case because my keyboards are across the room from my main editing computer and I didn't want to have even more spaghetti strewn around the room.

This is awesome! We would love to see you release some music. I just have a Akai mini at the moment, but it helps me be creative. Just wanted to write to say your beard is looking great. Thanks for the wonderful video as always.

Yeah it's got a unique sound that's worth exploring! Also keep an eye out for the SG01v if you don't need the optional serial interface, sometimes you can find that one more easily.

I never had anything like these growing up but I think that the SG01k sounds great, in my opinion. I’ll definitely be keeping my eye out for one of those for my tech collection.

Yep, each one has their own reverb and chorus settings. I was just using the defaults here.

Ever since I found out that you were interested in electronic music, and production, I've been DYING to see anything about your setup! I hope you can do any kind of content on that in the future, even on Blerbs!

If you are looking for any new Midi video ideas I recently got a Yamaha Mu80 and a Roland sc-88VL that I am trying to connect to Windows 10 and Dosbox for fun with a USB to Midi cable. Windows sees it as a midi cable but Descent in Dosbox feeds its tunes to Windows 10's internal synth instead of the Midi cable. Granted the fix is going with a good OS like Windows 3.1 or 9x. If there is any way to make Windows 10 almost fun with Midi, maybe it is good for a video.

I like the Gmega's sounds (I pretty much love all of the sounds, really; even the AKAI), but the reverb is a bit over the top. Is that something you can adjust manually per sample with these devices?

Niiice! This is very similar to the work I do on professional shows. Similar problems with spacing. You can get 1/2 u blank panels to get around the height issues although I think you’re at max capacity. Get rid of that EQ..! Pop an ultracurve in there ;) We also tend to address cable management by taking outputs to the side on the back and cable tying to rack ears. A lot of our bigger racks use half way rack strips, sometimes the half u ones which help with dongles and so on but that’s overkill. Main reason we do it is for airflow. I tend to be working with sonnet rack Mac mini chassis and those need air. It’s funny really, this looks a lot like what we used to build for digital orchestras. These days it’s a pair of rack macs , audio interfaces and switching hardware so we have fail over MIDI solutions Kit features a lot too. Main stage has killed off the MIDI modules though :(... nice work!

Just fun seeing how much the MT32 takes up in space when rackmounted, compared to the soundcanvas and other devices.

This is amazing. I love whenever you cover MIDI stuff because it was always out of my reach at the time I was playing games that utilized it... and was well out of date by the time I could even think of buying any of this kind of equipment for myself. Can't wait to see what's next!

Love this! I figure there should be something to mechanically connect those half-rack modules together so you don't need a shelf though. I did find this but not sure if it'd be too wide. I wonder if that shelf is just tall enough to make things tight. Now you need to make some kind of compartment for all the cables that leave the box so you can keep the back on and just pull the cables out :D

Soooooo in the first 15 minutes of the video I realized that prices on SC-55 mkii were going to spike when this went live. I've been wanting one for a while to make a dungeon synth album on soooo.........I may have ordered one that was listed at a /really/ good price because of this video 😅😅😅😅 Also when you got into audio rate triggering the modules I briefly wondered if you'd been watching my IG videos or Twitch streams 🤣🤣🤣 Amazing video though. Love all of yours, but this one was really special for me. Also, hope you found a good solution for that Qu-Bit module :P

Dude, this is awesome, but literally, I just finished finding all the modules of the MIDI mountain 1! If I order more vintage MIDI modules from eBay my wife is going to kick me out of the house :)
