LGR - Exploring My Synth Setup!

Well, maybe not absolutely everything but a whole lotta stuff is touched on here. Analog and digital synths, drum machines, eurorack, mixing, compressors, scopes, switchers, and way more bleep, bloops, and bops than you can shake a stick at. And naturally, this is one of those videos where I completely intended for it to be a general overview that'd be like 15 minutes long, max. And I guess it still kind of is? But here we are with a 55 minute video edited down from like 4 hours of footage. Ha.
And this wasn't even the planned video for this week, I didn't even start on this until Monday! I've been deep into a couple of PC hardware retrospectives that demand a little more research and attention than usual, and neither project is complete yet. I considered just not posting anything this week, but then figured, "hey, people have been asking about my synth corner for over a year now. Why not just make a quick overview of that, piece of cake!"
Welp, it was all I could do not to gush about oscillators for hours and create tons of extra work for myself. I guess I'm a bit more enthusiastic about the stuff than I thought. I didn't go into tremendous detail since I had so many different devices to cover, but hopefully it still proves enlightening/entertaining/ehprettygood.

Quite the synth setup, Clint!! I want a prophet 5 rev2 or rev3 because they use Z80 CPU and I think it looks really cool!! That machine was quite a beast!! Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel, and even the Stranger Things Soundtrack used the Prophet!! They are not cheap to find original, but Sequential (the company who made it) has created a re-release with modern features and amenities like true MIDI support, better sound stability, and the same amazing tone!! Thanks for sharing your set up! Makes me want to buy more non-Daw outboard equipment. You are right there is something pleasing about physical faders and control knob!

Thank you! I'm somehow never happy with the way my demonstrations sound, I probably recorded some of those segments four or five times before settling on one.

Personally I just started by watching a whole lotta YouTube! Andrew Huang, Ricky Tinez, Loopop, LOOK MUM NO COMPUTER, Hainbach, Alex Ball, Noir Et Blanc Vie, BoBeats, and many more. Feels like I learned through osmosis.

Loved it. I cant play the piano myself, so i Allways just used the presets and build in Rythm tracks on my brothers keyboard to make some fun. I do like your setup though, reminds me of Jean Michell Jarres analog setup. And your demos sounded Nice.

Awesome, I've been hoping for a video like this ever since you first dropped some hints of your synth setup in other LGR/Blerbs videos. Sorry if I missed this, but what stand/rack are you using for your Roland TR-8S and TD-3? I have a similar multi-synth desktop setup, and whatever you're using seems to work better than the repurposed laptop stand I'm using now. I visited a friend in Asheville a couple of summers ago and was stoked to be able to tour the Moog factory--really awesome experience. Although it did inspire me to buy a Moog Grandmother a couple months later, so yeah, I can definitely understand the danger inherent in having them nearby.
you should come talk with chip communities, if you wanna play some more! We welcome anything hardware or simulation related!

I agree with all other comments and want to add that I really appreciate you going into such a personal hobby of yours. I know you mentioned that you liked to keep some hobbies/interests to yourself and thought that your synth work would be something I'd only see on twitter. So its really awesome seeing this video pop up and especially happy to hear you talk about something that really interests you. Those are your best videos. Like my all time favourite is your NFS video of you just sitting and chatting/reminiscing. You're genuinely amazing clint, thanks again!

this is so freaking cool, im with you on analog, ive played a little bit with digital synth on garage band and such, but its not as fun as turning dials and plugging in cables. i've wanted to get into this for a long time, but i have no idea where to start. got any advice or resources for a total synth noob to get started?

Seriously though, thanks for taking the time to make such a deep dive into your setup for us, it's definitely something I've been wondering about for a while.
