LGR - The Gateway Astro PC

This one is all about the elusive Gateway Astro, a nifty little system from 1999 that was part of the whole post-iMac resurgence in all-in-one computer designs. The thing is even more fascinating than I thought it'd be when I decided to dive into it, I hope you enjoy the watch!
It's also a video that I put a few more days into producing than I normally would since I felt pretty inspired by my surroundings. The environment, lighting, and overall aesthetic is a bit different here and that is entirely on purpose! Behind the scenes I've been constantly building out, adding to, and tweaking my new home and I think it's really starting to come together as a cool place to work and film within. A new workbench, new office, new desks, new lights and such all came together in the past few weeks and this video was my first opportunity to put a lot of it to the test in video form. Hopefully it's not TOO distracting, I kinda couldn't stop testing different spaces and lights! But man was this a fun one to put together as a result, I really felt creatively energized in a way that I haven't in... a couple years to be honest.
Oh and holy nuts, on the topic of years: I could've sworn I picked this machine up like, a year or two ago at most? Nah man, after looking at the original footage I shot for this, I realized that I got it... in 2018. Over four years ago, good grief. In hindsight I'm glad I waited since I would not have done it justice back then. But wow does time fly lately.
Anyway yeah, I hope y'all have fun watching this one. I don't expect it to do gangbusters in terms of views but whatever, I really enjoyed putting this one together. Have a nice week!

Oh man, some other all-in-ones were a nightmare to work on. I did always love that Gateway made all their computers so easy to work on.

Love all the new backgrounds! I don't know how hard they are to find, but the Profile 2 looks so interesting. Perhaps be a cool video topic someday?

Holy Crap! I actually remember that Rugrats commercial. I also really wanted a computer at they time. I would get a computer 2 years later but unfortunately not one of these. It was a white box special built out of spare parts from a relative

I love the utter mediocrity of this system. It really reminds me of my first PC. Was also a Celeron system, though I think even that had better specs than the Gateway Astro. Honestly though, if I got an Astro I probably would've loved it still. Seems to handle everything somewhat adequately.

I agree, it is a neat looking machine but I would have probably been a bit disappointed if I had purchased it. I have always like the option of upgrading a thing.

Lovely machine! And the house spaces are looking awesome! Loved the multiple machines on display in the opening shot, especially seeing the IBM 5170 again, but the office shots and the workshop all look great! And I think we're all drooling a bit seeing that storage room all neat and filled too

Great video! And super helpful for one of my current projects, since I've been working on a Barbie PC that shows absolutely no signs of life, just like your Astro. Next chance I get I'm gonna try replacing the CMOS battery and see what happens! Never even occurred to me that it might keep the system from booting.
