The American Presidential Election of 2024
🕑 Added 2025-02-10 14:26:50 +0000 UTCI enjoyed making this one more than I thought I would. I think it turned out probably better than all my other episodes, but I think that's mostly because when you do something over and over for several years you inevitably get better at it. Oh don't get me wrong. I still have a lot of learning to do. I wish I was a better storyteller. But I'll get there eventually.
I tried so hard to make this one shorter, but because so much happened that was incredibly difficult. This episode is shorter than the 2020 and 2016 episodes, but only slightly.
It goes live on on Friday. Thanks to all of your for your continued support.

Mr. Beat
I explain this a bit in yesterday's livestream!

Mr. Beat presents... PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS IN AMERICAN HISTORY *echo* *applause*
Elias Pierce
“Men’s rights” has never been an actual issue
Okidiki
one interesting point that you make beat is in regards to Nixon pushing the country left. I'd love to see you explore Nixon and his leftism more.
Okidiki
hey anon, sounds like you're in a dark place. Hope you're doing ok. I'd urge you to remember the southern strategy, how when people felt that civil rights were impacting them, how it made them more partisan. I feel the same happening to the sexes and that scares me. Men going right and women going left, entering into "I hate ..." TikTok echo chambers, very scary and sad. It's not women, or Kamala, that's made it this way. Blame social media. They want us to be angry at each other. You have every right to feel angry about being lonely. Believe me, I get it. I'd urge you to think about it from a woman's perspective too, about the violence and the brutality they continue to endure. No wonder so many of them are swearing off men, you ever read the Lysistrata? I'd check it out. But listen. If you view women and modern feminism as the jailors to your companionship, then you're gonna end up bitter and resentful. Look after yourself and your peace, surround yourself with joy and good people (people who do exist and are out there!), and you'll be ok. Stay strong mate.

no i have not, ill give him a watch. I do think that those gender-related issues specifically with the male loneliness epidemic was a major contributor to Trump's reelection. I feel tables are turning when it comes to gender and men are now being seen as the minority.
Mr. Beat
I follow this stuff pretty closely actually and have brought it up on my podcast. Have you heard of Scott Galloway? He has spoken at length about this crisis. Thanks for the comment. I'll be sure to add what you mentioned to Monday's follow-up livestream!
annonymous
Not bad, but left out a critical issue. Men's rights and Mens Issues. One of the biggest groups harris alienated was Young Men because she only caterd her campaign to Women. This was a big reason why you saw Young Men swing out for trump, which grew the so called Manosphere. It makes me think that you didn't see that as a major issue in this election which it absolutely is. One of my personal biggest reasons for voting trump is the issues men face, such as not being able to get married, not being able to find female companionship, men being falsely accused, men being treated as if they are a problem in society. There was an article released on the new york times relating to Trump and the Dating Crisis and its major role in played in the election. I dont know why you wouldn't mention that. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/11/30/opinion/dating-bro-culture-manosphere-trump-cinderella.html
Mr. Beat
Based on all my research of history over the years, it has NOT always been this way. We are living in unprecedented times. Cable news played a role, but I think the fact that giant corporations have all of our data now also plays a significant role. They know better than ever how to create high arousal emotions based on that data, and high arousal emotions are what drive traffic to their media. Unfortunately, a byproduct of high arousal emotions are hyper-polarization.
D.F.
It's staggering to me how differently the supporters of one candidate view the world vs the supporters of the other candidate! It's like they live in two different worlds. Has it always been this way? Is the proliferation of hyper-polarized cable news networks to blame?
Mr. Beat
Thanks for your support on here, Seth!

I’m very optimistic about this new presidency and can’t wait to see government spending plummet that’s the only way our wallet will thrive thanks for the upload Mr Beat
Mr. Beat
I do think things are going to get much worse before they get better.
Mr. Beat
Can I ask why that song?
DANTE VERONA
Graviora Manent is Latin for, heavier things remain. Also known as, the worst is yet to come... Trump is President again. Take care of yourself and save your money; but do what you can when you can.
A random guy guy
Really wished you had used Not Like Us as the background song, but good video regardless
Mr. Beat
You're right, though it was lower than 2020.
Mr. Beat
Me too! Heh...and thank you Andrew. :)
Mr. Beat
Thank you Nick!
Nick Morgan (VGDB)
Good shit Mr Beat. Watching it now and only 3 minutes and and I love it a lot so far, great job! Great work!
Andrew Ault
Good video as always Mr.Beat. here's looking to midterm of 2026 and the American Presidential Election of 2028
Yonimations
I feel like turnout was much higher compared to other recent elections, but that could be just me. Great video, man!
Mr. Beat
Thank you, and yep, I definitely need to make a separate video about that!
Okidiki
great vid, only thing I think is missing is roe vs wade
Mr. Beat
Thanks!
astral ドリームランド
Killed it as always Mr. Beat. Been waiting for this vid since Election Day
Mr. Beat
Thanks Joe!
Joe Keefe
Not too shabby Beat
Mr. Beat
Still good songs. I feel like Kendrick's moment might be 2028.
DF Douglas
Great video Mr. Beat , I love this series ! Would’ve loved to hear Not like us or Million dollar baby as the background song but that’s okay 😂
Michael Burt
*past 9 elections (since 1992)
Mr. Beat
Duly noted!
Michael Burt
Well done as always. I think it’s worth mentioning that that Trump swept all seven swing states and that this was the difference. Also, this was only the second Republican popular vote victory of the past 10 elections. Dems have their work cut out for them.
Mr. Beat
Yep, all great points man. Similar to 2020, I'm going to do a livestream to go over things I couldn't fit into the episode...I'll probably be doing it on Presidents Day. I'll be sure to bring up your thoughts!
Mr. Beat
I wouldn't have been a couple months ago, but strangely it was smooth sailing making it here recently. :)
Grant Hughes
Oh man, I'm not sure I've I'm emotionally ready for this one yet 😅
Naterade
Great recap! I love this series! Have you ever considered releasing an “extended edition” of these videos? It would be fun to get into the weeds on some things that develop during the course of the election. Although, I understand this means more work and I’m sure at some point you are just over it, which I totally understand. A few of my thoughts about the election > My older brother summed up the election well. “While it wasn’t a blowout by any means, Trump won decisively. Like a baseball team sweeping a series, but each game only being decided by a single run. “ > Tim Walz was a great VP pick. The guy oozes charm, is down to earth and I believe genuinely cares about people. It is one of the few things I think Harris did right. > Inflation was really damaging to democrats chances. While it would have been just as much of a problem under Trump had he won in ‘20, the public will rightly or wrongly blame the party sitting in the Oval Office. > If the Democrats are smart they will rebrand and pick better candidates. Losing the popular vote should be a wake up call.
Elias Pierce
Re-elected means “to be elected to another term”, and this is another term. So yes.
Adam Christians
Does a former president running to return to the white house count as a re-election?
Adam Christians
I figured Trump would win because Harris can't run a campaign to save her life. Her 2020 bid is an example, but she was worse than I thought. But to poke fun at myself, here's my right and wrong about the election. ✅Trump Wins EC ❌Harris Wins PV (From a Democrat win of 7M votes to a GOP of 2.3M is a pretty hefty shift, although the shifting from 2004 to 2008 was still a more significant shift in my life) ✅GOP Gains Senate ❌Democrats Gains House
Adam Christians
If Harris wanted to get votes from former Republicans, campaigning with Liz Cheney ain't the best strategy.
Edward Goldstick
I was overseas and don't remember that he ran, so I will watch your presentation later. Thanks! Other than that, your presentation was fine if a bit over simplified (imo)... but I understand the time constraints. Fwiw, I have not looked to see if you or Litchman dissect your erroneous predictions, so perhaps I find that video ready to watch or perhaps it's in the work. Thanks again or in advance as the case may be...
Edward Goldstick
That does seem like a contradiction: she was a "terrible candidate" but the media worked hard to elect her opponent? Fwiw, I think the "lessons to be learned" transcend the Democratic Party: it can again try to overly focus on 'kitchen table' issues as well as winking at the prejudices that exist for some of its coalition, but I'm not convinced that will work any better. If you mean "terrible" as in "too risky" or "the wrong fit" given those forces - latent racism and misogyny plus the complexities of making the positive argument for continuing down the post-COVID path with Democrats in the majority, I see your point but respectfully disagree. They were, in the end, faced with no easy strategy given the wide berth that Trump was given in the light of his weird behavior. Let's also remember that "his" media friends filtered both the view of him and that of his opponent rather successfully during the 100+ days that she was the candidate/nominee...
Elias Pierce
Yep even worse than Bush in 2004, EC margin was better though. The PV vs EC variance has definitely gotten worse recently.
Mr. Beat
All great info to include in the follow-up livestream. Trump ran in 2000. I have a video about that. :) https://www.youtube.com/shorts/AxVSlt5PLqM
Mr. Beat
Yeah, we'll see if the Democratic Party learned the lessons.
Mr. Beat
Thank you Elias
Mr. Beat
Really? I'll have to include this fact in the Presidents Day livestream.
Mr. Beat
It was so tough to cram it all in.
Edward Goldstick
Reasonably well done, Matt, for an 11 minute summary. One error was that this was Trump's 3rd run for the WH, not his 4th (unless I'm missing something). I also think the 63.9% participation rate was important to emphasize as well as the final vote counts because (imho) the key difference this time was who did not vote (or was not able to vote) in comparison with 2020. Also, the really heavy duty negative advertising about Kamala Harris after she became the candidate was impactful (again, imo).
Elias Pierce
It was also the worst re-election PV margin in US history.
Elias Pierce
This one is quite the fever dream 😅 Awesome work as always!
Michael Cortez
Such a terrible candidate (Kamala). Never have I seen the overall general media work so hard to collude with one another to elect a candidate
