She kissed her husband goodbye as he went out before she too headed off to work. As the owner of one of the biggest electronics store in the city, she always made sure to be punctual. Misato was always the first one, making sure the doors are open and to take inventory.
Usually her employees would start coming in right about now but for some reason no one was showing up. Checking her watch, Misato sighed and went to the counter at the front of the store. She might as well welcome some customers.
Usually this was about the time people would come in but much like her employees they were a no show. Misato couldn't help but shiver at the eerily silence, her store was on the bigger side so without her employees and customers moving about it felt like she was in a haunted house.
Half an hour later, and Misato began making calls. She'd called all ten of her employees and to her shock none of them had answered. What was going on? Was this some sort of prank? Her birthday was months ago so it definitely wasn't a surprise party-
Suddenly a large object was thrown at the glass window of the store, shattering it.
Misato screamed and quickly ducked under her counter. Was someone trying to rob her this early in the day?! She quickly grabbed her phone and began to dial the police just as she heard unfamiliar voices enter the store.
“You didn't need to throw the brick you know, the door was open.”
“I know that, but I've always wanted to do that!
“Really? You've always wanted to throw a brick through a window?”
“Yeah man, fuck it. The world's gone to shit might as well!”
Misato could hear the men laughing as she pressed the phone to her ear. Silently hoping they don't find her and that the police answer-
Sorry, this is an automated response, the police are currently unavailable….”
Misato's heart sunk as she heard this.
The police were unavailable? How?!
Thinking fast, she dialed her husband's number. Maybe he was going to help her-
M-misato! Is…is that you…I don't feel so good. One of these monsters bit me and I don't f-feel so…so good. The kids-
“H-honey are you okay?!” She whispered frantically.
“M-monsters everywhere, you have to…get the children-
“Hello? Honey?!” Misato yelled into the phone. It sounded like her husband and dropped his phone because she could here distant screams and someone shuffling about. “What's going-
“Look at what we have here?”
Misato froze at the voice coming from behind her.
“You know, I was wondering where you were?”
Her eyes widened at the second voice, this one was familiar. She slowly turned and was met with the sight of two men. One of them familiar to her.
“Y-you…” Misato gazed up at one of her employees. “W-whats going on? Why are you doing this?!”
“Why am I doing this?! Bitch look around, the world has gone to shit!” He laughed.
“S-stop this madness, the police will-
-Will do nothing, they've got their hands full out there.”
“Out there?” For a moment her fear was replaced with confusion.
“What's this? You don't know do you?” Her former employee burst out laughing. “Look at that, Mrs bitch face know it all has been finally humbled. Man, the end of the world really is great!”
“So this is the bitch you keep complaining about huh?” The other man spoke. “She's got a nice pair of tits on her.”
Her former employee knelt down and was now eye level with her. A smirk on his face as he gazed at her with lust clear in his eyes.
“The world outside is done for, monsters that can rip you apart with their bare hands and eat you alive are running around outside. Worst part is that if they bite you you become one of them. You don't wanna know how many we killed to get here. Men, women, children it didn't matter.” He said before his hand shot forward and grabbed her by the hair. Misato cried out as the man stood up and roughly brought her up. “Ever since I became an adult my life has been a living hell. I have to work up early to go to work, then come home late from work. Sleep and then do it all over again. Back in the day, I didn't have to worry about food, it was always there, waiting for me. Now I have to work hard to find my own food. Whenever school got too hard I just skipped the next day and took a little break. But if I skip even one day of work then I would be homeless! Coming here and working for a bitch like you was the worst! They way you looked down on me like I was worthless!”
Misato, through tear filled eyes looked at her former employee. He usually came in late for work and she'd chastised him once or twice. Apart from that, he had been normal! They'd seen each yesterday, talked and even waved goodbye to each other. Now, he looked like he was possessed! Eyes wide and filled with madness. Just what was happening outside-
“Hey, looks like we have company. You might want to hurry it up-
-I don't care! I'm going to take my time with this. You can go loot whatever you want, I'll join you once I'm done.”
“Tsk, you better save some for me. This bitch is hot enough for me to have your sloppy seconds.” The other man said before he turned and run off.
Misato turned her head just enough to see the store she'd worked so hard to make being reduced to nothing as more people began running in and grabbing whatever they could carry.
“You know, I always found it funny that despite working in the a place that had the top of line models of phones, laptops and TVs I had a shitty second hand phone. Not anymore,” He sneered as he brought her closer to his face. “When I'm done fucking you, I'm getting the most expensive things in here. I'm no longer society's puppet! There are no strings on me-
“Jeez shut up,”
Misato watched as a boy walked over and smacked the man who was about to assault her with a crowbar.
Her former employee's eyes rolled up into the back of his head, his grip on her slackened and he fell face first onto the floor.
Misato stared at the boy-teen with wide eyes as he held out his hand.
“Come with me if you want to live,” He said and Misato hesitated. Someone she had known for almost two years had turned against her. What's stopping him from doing the same? She looked into his eyes and all she saw was agency. If she didn't take his hand in the next second he was going to leave her.
Misato took the offered hand.
“Come on, we have to-” He began to speak only to be interrupted by a loud yell.
“Hey, what the hell did you do to my friend!?” The man from before yelled, a bag full of stolen goods in one arm. “Those fuckers killed my friend! Stop them! Whoever catches them gets the woman!”
“We have to go!” The boy pulled her along as they ran for the exit.
“Get back here!”
Misato could hear the people chasing after them. It was hopeless, even if they ran out of the store their pursuers would still catch up to them-
Suddenly a burning car of all things slammed into the store! Misato felt someone push her put of the way as the car all but flipped into the store. There was a loud crash and screams as the car slammed into some people.
Misato had hit the floor face first, leaving her stunned for a bit. She tried to look up as smoke from the burning car began to filll the store. She looked up just as the fire alarm went off.
“Well shit, things just got worse.” A voice close to her said. With the smoke filling the room she could barely make out the figure next to her. “Get up and be quiet, if the crush didn't get their attention then the smoke alarm definitely did.”
The monsters, the ones that she'd heard so much about. Misato could hear a faint inhuman groaning as figures she couldn't quite see slowly entered the store. The looked like men but-
Misato was suddenly grabbed and pulled to her feet. She felt a firm grip on her arm as she slowly guided forward. Misato knew it was her teen saviour and gladly let him lead the way. She feel and somewhat see the figures of the monsters as they walked deeper into the store. Regardless of the smoke and now burning store.
Suddenly they stopped, Misato could still feel the teens grip on her as tried to look through the dense smoke. What was he waiting for-
A loud scream drew her attention to the back of the store. Even though she couldn't see what was happening, it was clear to her that the monsters had gotten a hold someone. Soon more screams filled store.
“Run!” Came the whisper from the teen before he began running with Misato doing her best to catch up. They made it out of the store, light finally filling her eyes! It felt like she had been trapped for a long time! But now that she was free, she would thank the teen and run off the save her children-
Misato was suddenly tackled. It was like she was falling in slow motion as her eyes met the eyes of her saviour. The eyes that had calm agency to them were now wide and filled with horror. Before she could speak the world began moving again and felt her back hit the ground as the thing on top of her began eating at her neck.
Misato let a out a piercing scream as she was eaten alive. Her hand going up to her saviour, to beg him to save her one more time-
He looked at her for a moment before he turned and ran away.
Misato began to feel herself losing consciousness as more of the monsters began feasting on her body. She could barely feel the pain of her arm being torn off. Her last thoughts being that of her children and her husband. And surprisingly of the teen who had left here. She wanted to thank him.
“Hello may I help you?”
“I was hoping to buy a new phone for a friend of mine,” the teen said as he looked around the store.
“You've come to the right place, do you know what type of phone they like?” She asked him with a smile.
“I'm not sure…”
“Is this person by any chance a woman?” She asked with a teasing smile as the boy nodded. “Before we began, I have to warn you that the phones we have in stock are top of the line. So they are a bit on the pricy side.”
“I have more than enough,”
“If you say so. Now let's narrow it down, tell me what she's like.”
“She loves fashion and is a bit of a clutz…”
Misato could feel herself fading, a deep regret at not having lived her life to the fullest. And a hunger for…something. The hunger seemed to take over as Misato embraced her life.
Seconds later her eyes snapped open, revealing soulless eyes.

…
“Looks like traffic is flowing now!” Ms Shizuka yelled from the driver's seat.
Takashi sighed in relief as the bus turned on and they began moving. They had been stuck on road for almost an hour, most of the group had takem Saeko's words to heart and dozed off. Only he, Saeko and Ms Shizuka were still awake. With the later staring at her phone, waiting for a response from Akira.
After comforting Saya, the nurse had spent most of her time staring at the phone. She seemed worried about him, as expected of the school nurse.
Saeko had remained vigilant, her eyes watching the outside of the bus in case of any danger.
As for Takashi, he was trying to think of how he was going to rescue his mother. And so far, he had come up with nothing. He was trying to see if he could make well thought out detailed plan but nothing was coming to mind. The only thing he could come up with was him going to Shintoko Elementary, hopefully find her and make it up from there.
Sadly he wasn't a sex bot from the future that can plan ahead…
“We're finally moving?” A sleepy Rei asked as she opened her eyes. Much to his happiness, Rei had fallen asleep leaning against him.
“Yeah, hopefully it'll be smooth sailing from here.” Takashi replied.
“Note to self, don't fall asleep.” Hisashi from the other side said as he stretched. “I'm not sure about everyone else but my dream was pretty messed up.”
“Same here,” Yuuki said from the back. “I'm really stressed out you guys.”
“I thought everything was back to normal, but then I woke up.” Rei sighed. “Realised I wasn't on my bed but on this godforsaken bus-
The bus suddenly jumped, like they'd hit a large speed bump.
“Sorry about that guys! Ran over a couple of zombies!” Shizuka yelled from the front. “You guys hold on back there! Once we make this turn I'm gonna speed up!”
“You heard her guys. Hold on to your seats.” Takashi said as he gripped the seat in front him. “Hold on tight Rei.”
“You hold on tight mighty fearless leader!” Yuuki yelled as the bus began to pick up speed. “And keep you hands to yourself!”
The bus was now moving so fast it felt like they were floating. Takashi could feel his body get pushed further and further into his seat. The bus took a few sharp turns that almost had him puking his guts out. And ‘Speed bumps’ that almost sent Takashi and everyone else flying.
“M-MRS SHIZUKA, I GET THAT WE'RE IN A HURRY BUT COULD YOU PLEASE SLOW-
Saya who had woken up shrieked only for the bus to come to a sudden holt, causing the pink haired girl to slam face first into the seat in front of her.
“Ha!”
That one came from Yuuki.
“We're here!” Shizuka yelled as everyone let out sighs of relief.
“Glad that's over-blurg!
Kohta had opened a window and was puking while a disgusted Saya quickly distanced herself from him.
Hisashi had fallen out if his seat and was slowly getting up.
Meanwhile Saeko was openly smiling and stood up. “That was fun, I hope we do it again.” She said.
“Of course the crazy one is turned on by us almost dying.” Saya huffed before she turned to him. “Now what?”
“Uh Saeko, Hisashi and I will go out and make sure it's safe to go in.” Takashi said as looked outside. They were in the good part of Tokonosu, where most of the rich folk lived. Thankfully there were no zombies in sight. “Ms Shizuka, please tell me that's Rika's place.”
The building Takashi was staring at was nice gated tall upstair house. He was genuinely expecting a small apartment not a whole building!
“Hmm mm, that's her place. I got the keys right here!” Shizuka happily said as she held up a ring of golden keys.
“Good, Saeko take them. Once we're out Ms Shizuka try parking the bus in a way that has it blocking the gate.” Takashi ordered as the blonde nurse nodded.
“Hey I wanna come to-
“Sorry Rei but you're our second strongest fighter. If something happens to us or the bus gets attacked its up to you.” Takashi said as Rei reluctantly nodded.
“I'll be at the front,” Saeko said, her bokken at the ready as she stepped up to the door of the bus and opened it.
Takashi and Hisashi both picked up the weapons they had hidden under their seats and followed after her. Once outside the bus they opened the gate and quickly ran up the stairs. Saeko reached the door first, unlocked it and slowly opened it. Once the door was open, she silently walked in with the boys following.
Saeko seemed to glare at the room before she slammed her bokken on the ground three times. Takashi was about to ask what the hell but the look on her face scared and slightly aroused him so he let her do her thing.
“I’ll go check all the rooms while you guys bring everyone up.” Saeko said, her bokken in hand. The older girl began walking towards stairs while the boys went back outside.
A few seconds later everyone was gathered in the living room.
“Rooms are checked, no zombies hiding in cupboards.” Saeko said as joined the group.
“Why would a Zombie hide in a cupboard?” Hisashi asked as Saeko shrugged.
“I'm not sure myself, just doing what Akira ordered me to do. Said something about a Zombie jumpscare being stupid.” The swordswoman said.
“Okay everybody before we go do whatever it is we'll be doing, let's make sure we're all okay.” Takashi said as he stared at the group. “Ms Shizuka?”
“I'm okay!” The blonde woman gave two peace signs.
“Ms Kyoko?”
“I'm fine…” The redhead looked really tired. Like the weight of the world was on her shoulders, honestly he could relate.
“Hisashi?”
The second year boy gave a mock salute.
“Rei?”
“I'm good,” the girl nodded.
“Saeko?”
“Still in one piece,” Saeko said as she gave a smirk.
“Yuuki?”
“Apart from the emotional trauma? I'm good.” The gyaru nodded.
“Kohta?”
“I'm fine if a bit dehydrated…” the boy looked a bit pale.
“Saya-
“If any of us was bitten we would have turned a long time ago! All this is just a waste of time!” Saya angrily said, holding Akira's laptop to her chest.
“See this is why I saved you for last,” Takashi muttered as he turned to face the whole group. “I'm glad we're all fine, well most of us. But we still have a few more things to do before we can finally seat down. Saya, is Akira's laptop still on?”
“Battery is half full, why do you-
“Good, boot it up. Go to his documents, there's a file could Rika's inventory.” Takashi said as Saya grumpily did as told. “Before we separated Akira told me that this place has supplies, so the plan is to gather everything up and take note of what's missing. We'll compare everything we've found to Akira's file see if a few things are missing. Ms Shizuka do you mind taking care of Ms Kyoko? Maybe take her to a room so she can get some rest?”
“Right, come on Kyoko!” The blonde nurse grabbed the teacher by the arm and slowly led her to the stairs. “The rest of us will split into two teams, boys with me, we'll search one side of the house starting with the kitchen and girls you'll search other. We'll go to the kitchen, you guys go check the other rooms.”
“Come on Kohta, you look like you could use a glass of water.” Hisashi said with a chuckle as he dragged the other boy to the kitchen.
Takashi quickly join boys with the girls going the other side of the house.
A few minutes later, Kohta was no longer dying of thirst.
“Dude, the way you took charge like that? Gave me the shivers.” Hisashi said.
The boys were currently in the pantry, taking stock of the shelves of canned food. Seriously, there was so much canned food here it should be illegal!
“Don't say it like that, it sounds weird!” Takashi retorted as bent down and pulled out a box that was under the shelves. He opened the box and to his surprise, more canned food.
“It only sounds weird if you make it weir-oh shit a box of noodles, nice!” Hisashi said as he moved the box to the side. “What I meant to say was, you're a natural born leader! Ordering people around and giving tasks. I would have never thought of taking inventory!”
“Sorry to disappoint but I'm just a mouth piece,” He chuckled bitterly. “Since the beginning, this whole time. We've been dancing to Akira's tune. He's the one who got us out, he's the one who's responsible for all of this.” Takashi gestured to the food.
“Yeah well, Akira isn't the one keeping Saya in check. Isn't that right Kohta?” Hisashi said as they turned to face the other boy.
“Yep, she's so mean!” Kohta said as he munched on a bag of chips they found. It seemed he was making up for the food he puked out earlier.
“Can we not have this little talk, I don't want to be the leader. Once Akira comes back I'm stepping aside.” Takashi said as he his friend chuckled.
“You know in Anime and manga, the ones who are reluctant or didn't ask to be leaders end up making the best leaders.” Hisashi said as Takashi snorted.
“Yeah well, this isn't an anime or a manga.”

“I'm outside,”
For the past few minutes Kiriko had been talking to a woman named Yuko. She had lost contact with Akira but before that he had reassured her that Yuko could be trusted.
With her trusted spear sharpened, a bag filled with some basic supplies on her back, and dressed in a full red tracksuit. Kiriko was ready.
Taking a breath she opened her front door and was met with sight of a woman dressed in a tight white body suit.
“Wow,” Was all Kiriko could say as she stared the frankly humongous pair of tits in front of her.
“Mrs Miyamoto, I'm Yuko.” The big titted woman didn't seem to notice her staring. “We're in a bit of trouble, this entire neighbourhood is not safe right now. We're gonna have to fight our way to the chopper.”
“Chopper?” Kiriko asked as the other woman nodded. “And you said you're a friend of Akira's?”
“Government business, right now I'm doing him a favour. Now come on.” Yuko said as Kiriko stepped out of the house. As soon as she did so she was met with chaos. Smoke everywhere, people screaming and running for their lives! “Hope you can use that spear, things are about to get messy.”
“Of course I can use the spear,” Kiriko grinned. “Can you use that sword?”
“You're about to find out,” Yuko replied with a grin of her own.
Two women quickly ran into the road with Yuko leading. They were instantly met with a horde of Zombies. Yuko was a flash of white as she decimated their enemies, a single swing of her sword and two or more zombies were decapitated.
Kiriko was a whirlwind with her spear. She either stabbed them right in the head or decapitated them. Thanks to her spear none of them got close.
The two women easily killed more than thirty zombies before they made it to the pick up zone. From there they had to climb a building and wait for the chopper.
“I wonder, just how does Akira know you?” Kiriko asked, the two currently seated on the roof of a building.
“I know him through a friend of a friend.” Yuko replied with a small smile. “I read your file, from gang leader to police officer huh?”
“I've lived an interesting life,” Kiriko replied with a chuckle. “So you're some kind of super soldier?”
“Believe it or not I'm a medic,” Yuko laughed. “I'm mostly behind a desk, this is the first action I've had in years.”
“Same here, one moment you're a house wife minding your own business and the next your dusting off the old skills and fighting for your life.” Kiriko said with a laugh of her own. Once things settled down she asked. “Have talked to Akira?”
“I lost contact with him a while back, the last thing we talked about was rescuing you and taking you to your daughter.” Yuko replied with a frown. “I hope he's okay. It's not an exaggeration to say the future of the city depends on Akira.”
“Really?” Kiriko couldn't help but ask. She was aware that Akira was an interesting but this-
“Looks like our ride is here,” Yuko said as she looked up. Kiriko followed her gaze, up in the sky was a chopper heading their way.
Kiriko felt relief flood her, she was finally going to be reunited with her daughter!

…
When Akira came back, he was…different. He was quieter than unusual as he simply opened the door to the passenger side.
“I…I didn't get the phone,” Akira said once he was seated with Ayumu's mother on his lap. “It's a rough estimate but I think everyone is already at Rika's. So it's full speed all the way.”
Ayumu glanced at his friend, he seemed distant. Like Akira wasn't really there.
“Let's just hope I don't get us lost!” Ayumu laughed, normally Akira would make a deadpan joke but it was like didn't even register what had been said.
Seeing the number of zombies in the road lowly increasing, Ayumu decided to hold on questioning his friend. He simply turned on the car and drove.
Maybe he was just seeing things, the stress of the day had finally gotten him that's all! There was nothing to worry about, Akira's fine!
…Or so Ayumu had assumed.
They had gotten lost three times thanks to Akira giving him the wrong directions.
“...sorry, I'm just tired. Its definitely this road.”
Ayumu silently followed the order. In the past Akira making such a small mistake would had Ayumu laughing and gloating. But now Ayumu knew better, something was definitely wrong.
Damn it Akira, just what the hell happened?!

After making sure Kyoko went to sleep, Shizuka sat by her phone. Akira hadn't called or messaged her yet. With what's going on in the city right now she was worried sick! She had been restless the entire drive here, silently praying for her lover's safety. Maybe checking on the others would keep her mind off-
Just as she stood up, Shizuka's phone rang. She had it picked up, answered and by her ear in less than a second!
“Akira?!” She yelled frantically.
“Sorry to disappoint, but this is Yuko. We're currently outside but there's a bus blocking away.”
“Oh Yuko…”
“The happiness in your voice warms my heart Shizuka but maybe open the garage door.”
“R-right!” Shizuka said before she quickly ran out of the room.
“I think I heard a helicopter just now,” The blonde nurse heard Kohta say as she ran down the stairs.
“I don't care about what you think you heard! Get back to counting the ramen, if a single packet goes missing I'm telling on you to Akira and he's gonna beat you up!” Saya threatened. It seemed the group had gathered every box of canned food and ramen the could find and were currently counting it.
“Akira wouldn't do that, right guys?” A nervous Kohta asked.
“There was rumour at school that the reason Akira never got bullied was because he had killed a man with his bare hands.” Yuuki chipped in.
“The guy is we'll built, did you see him without his shirt? Takashi wouldn't stop staring!” Hisashi laughed as his friend punched him in the shoulder.
“I don't appreciate you ogling my boyfriend Takashi!” Rei playfully added.
“Speak for yourself,” Yuuk said. “Some of us like it when a man takes the time to appreciate another man-
Shizuka quickly went down to the garage, there she found some tools and giant tank Rika called a car. On the side of the wall next to the mounted shelf was hook with a little remote on it. Grabbing the remote, Shizuka pushed single button on it. With a loud hum, the garage door began rising, it got about half way before the two people outside ducked down and entered.
“You can close it Shizuka,” Yuko said as she sighed in relief. “I'm glad we made it here, I can finally take a bath.”
“Same here, my hair is a mess!” The stranger said.
Shizuka took in their appearance, both were covered in blood and held blood weapons. Yuko a sword and the other woman a spear. Said woman looked familiar but for the life of her Shizuka doesn't know why.
“Introduction, Shizuka this is Kiriko Miyamoto. Rei Miyamoto's mother.” Yuko said as the other woman gave a bow.
That…that made sense.
“Rei will be so happy to see you,” Shizuka said with smile as she bowed. “Please come with me.”
“Any news from Akira?” Yuko asked as they walked back into the house.
“None, I'm really worried.” Shizuka said as they made their way to the living room where the kids were laughing about something.
“I'm just saying, if Takashi loves looking at abs then it's okay. We all love abs so it's fine!” Yuuki said as the others laughed. “Oh Nurse Shizuka, who's are-
“Mom?” The low whisper came from Rei as she stood up, her eyes wide as tears filled them.
“Rei!” Kiriko Miyamoto dropped her spear and rushed to her daughter who met her halfway. The two embracing as they cried. “My sweet baby, I'm so happy you're okay!”
“Mommy!” Rei cried as she held her mother tighter.
Shizuka could only watch with a small sad smile. Watching them embrace and comfort each other, Shizuka couldn't help but think about Akira.

A/N Something weird happened with the site, I think it's probably on my end. Either way hope you guys can see this. I might get out a bonus chapter to celebrate my birthday which is on the 6th.

Shame that Misato couldn't be saved but I think she was a goner either way. Ngl I thought this would have a Zom100 crossover but pure Highschool of the Dead is fun too. I miss the manga tbh, RIP Daisuke Satō.

She already filled her roll. With Akira's savior complex to save as many people as he can, even just this one death where Akira couldn't save her despite being right next to her would ofcourse have an effect on him. It wasnt meant to have an impact on us, but on a person in Akira's shoes.

I feel like she should have lived a couple more chapters. Would have given time for the audience to latch on and her death to have more impact.

That was fantastic and watching Akira struggle is perfect... he's still just a person and failing to save someone you decided to save would prolly really fuck with you. Looking forward to his growth or maybe even his failures 😅
