Hence the documentary of the same name. Worth seeing. The local cult movie theater at the time sub-titled it, quite understatedly, "Bad Day at Altamont."

I always associate this song with the tragedy that was the Altamont Free concert in December of 1969. It was the antithesis of Woodstock. Historians equate Altamont with the ending of the peace and love movement that characterized the sixties. The summer of love gave way to the winter of discontent.

Definitely you should continue with this album. It's one of their gretatest albums. But, if you have forget it, some years ago you were listening to their masterpiece, Exile On Main Street. An album you could go back to. I'd love it. Thanks for this great reaction to this wonderful song, one of the best of all time.

A great album. Released a month after I was born. I wouldn't know it though - because my parents weren't into music like this. I always liked the Rolling Stones but working in dive bars in my twenties pushed me deeper into their catalogue. Merry Christmas Justin!!!

The film is "Gimme Shelter" by the Maysles Bros (the guys responsible for most of the "Beatles '64" footage). Dude didn't deserve a beating by the Angels, but who brings a gun to a concert?!? (Also, see the Weather Prophets' 1988 song "Well Done Sonny", referring to Charlie Watts' off-the-cuff remark from that film as he listens to Sonny Barger, the leader of the Hell's Angels, passing off responsibility.)
