"Today we operate from the assumption that everyone is born sick and must spend their entire lives doing the work to heal themselves." - Do we?

Just got introduced to Brad's work, I enjoy it/find it interesting, but can't help but feel like this video launches from two massive assumptions for which not much evidence is provided other than a few memes?

I first came upon "The Culture of Narcissism" back in high-school while randomly browsing books at a bookstore or library I can't remember. Reading it was a huge bummer. However, it really helped contextualize my current culture in a new way that made sense of the vapid individualism I was so annoyed with. Haven't seen it mentioned much at all.

I can't believe it took me so long to watch this. I really appreciate Brad's ability to discuss a breadth topics under the same heading while maintaining a critical approach that is honest without being detached or arrogant.
Milo Gallagher
just found your work and it’s so good. you’re so brave for the polyamory stuff lol

i loved the video, do u address a call to action further in another video ?

Brad, I really enjoyed this video. In fact, some of your resources and explanations helped me for an analysis I am writing for a Brazilian audience. Perhaps you'd be interested in the text "Neoliberalismo Como Gestao de Sofrimento." I am unsure if there is an English translation, but it is an insightful read that illuminates some of the topics you have shared with us in your work.

The reality shifting/DID phenomenon is so wild to me, especially in younger chronically online people - immersing yourself in fantasy worlds is totally natural, but in my day it was just writing self-insert fanfiction epics.

Hilariously the 'affirmations' hippy featured at 39 recently 'consciously uncoupled' From her partner. Two new age grifters realising the rotten core at the heart of their smug grift.

Is there a way to download these off of patreon so i can watch them offline?

hey not sure about the free tier advert was only able to preview 30s as free member so you can have my $5 this month. I will blame myself for that but maybe look into it? Report was ok a lot of overlap with hustle culture. Perhaps sensing a whiff of burnout on arena pdfs to read? Ok now that I think about it the videos of the pissdrinkers on conference chat is worth $5. Much respect regardless thanks for the reports always enjoyable.

Thanks Bradley troemel

Who’s going to tell the girl at 37:08 about her eyebrows?

This was challenging, I really need to take the time for introspection and determine what parts of myself that this has challenged and which have resonated with me. I've been shown I really need to do the self work required to determine if my self diagnosis is really authentic or performative.

My mom is right wing woo conspiracy deluxe combo platter… I’ve watched this twice trying to decide if I should airplay it to the tv and show her… she might just double down and get angry and defensive, or maybe sad? Either way I can’t frame it as something I found casually interesting. She’s sure to see herself in this video. Maybe not, I guess. It’s really hard to tell with her. For anyone has shown this to a loved one who is healing in silly ways, how did it go?
ABD
Incredible work with this.
Austin
this was a really really good one. also appreciate that it was particularly easy to engage with not just because of the topic but i think your pacing was just a little slower. the rapid fire delivery is classic but sometimes its easy to get lost. didn’t really have that problem this time. anyway, amazed as usual.
Nicholas Hannah
Holy shit brad this was AMAZING

Some of your best work. I work as a first responder for the most severely mentally ill individuals in LA county and I can't thank you enough for your this. Reminiscent of Freddie DeBoer's Gentrification of Disability. Thank you for validated and affirming my perspective

Delighted/Repulsed to see an appearance by that fucker who writes saccharine little messages with balloons. Great report.

You’re correct. Real spirituality is technically free. Taking a macro view of Brad’s videos (primarily Hustle Report/Culture War), people on online platforms are exploiting insecurities or contrary to certain ideas in order to have clout/make money. Those who really reach the “end point” of spirituality have no need to “sell “their ideas or recruit others. They realize we are all one playing out the game of life and appreciating all experience. https://youtu.be/tgY9VH0LL6E?si=tz8BXI_UUDUp2CHB

you're right, I haven't, but I am interested. what's it like up there? to me it appears socioeconomic status gives a major leg up both on healing and on intellect, but I've come to believe that healing results are not based primarily in either intelligence or wealth. the people I know in real life who have genuinely devoted their lives to healing seem to operate on a very different wavelength than what's depicted in this video essay. with a few notable exceptions, it seems to me that almost anyone who's posting on social media all the time is not doing ok. actually healed people seem to stay off social media as much as possible
Anh Pham
Healing is more socioeconomic than intelligence based. NYC is full of woo. I reckon you’ve never peeked at the scene just upstate.
green gobbling
well, maybe the video doesn’t explicitly pass judgment, but by pointing only to the most ridiculous & hypocritical examples of self-healing and new age spirituality, and speaking of them as representative of the whole— a judgment is implied. by labeling these absurd extremes as “healers” and “woo culture” respectively… to me it comes off like brad must not have any intelligent friends who are into self-healing and new age spirituality. if he did, they would have pointed him to some better research on these topics before he posted an essay like this. the works cited looks very one-sided. i’ve gathered that in NYC, among intellectual-leaning artistic circles, people tend to be very dismissive of this kinda stuff. that’s one of the reasons i moved to LA!
Anh Pham
It’s neither a female or male thing, in the video, Brad talks about nihilism brought by marketing/capitalism.
Anh Pham
I don’t think there is passing judgement on what is “right” and “wrong” in this video. Brad’s critique is about our current culture selling these healing practices. With every belief system, there will be solace, but also the egocentric and capital seeking profiteers. Since the target audience is already primed and beaten down by culture, they are susceptible to being taken advantage of. Spirituality is a journey. Social media helps, but “the work” is more than a few infographic slides and TikToks.
Knox
Also i suddenly thought…if around 1/4 women are assaulted or whatever the stat..that is a lot of healing that needs to happen tbh. Could this be a factor to this healing trend?
Maxim
Hmm yeah I think I suffer from some of these problems, thanks for diagnosing me
Knox
This is really interesting I feel like it applies to myself which was quite creepy. I do think we have a LOT of negative power acting upon us as well as the positive power (for example the negative power of the police and laws) not just positive these days. So i think our behaviour may include more of a mix from both personally ☺️
Selena Gerzic
Daddy Braddy does it again!!! I was a little disappointed there wasn't any mention of the capitalist discourse a la Lacanian psychoanalytic theory though. I reckon your whole flavor of critique both in this report and most of the others would fux heavily wit Lacan. Anyways, gonna go pop an ativan and manifest healing for all my pleiadians
green gobbling
brad, am such a big fan of your work, and i do think you’re onto some very important ideas here, but it seems you are in danger of throwing some babies out with the bathwater. i wonder if you perhaps haven’t gone through the wringer and had your life turned upside down by mental illness / nervous system dysregulation / chronic health conditions like so many of us have. and you’re right, our culture and our systems don’t offer real solutions to any of this, but that doesn’t mean we don’t all actually have something deeply wrong with our brains. i think you’re right that staring at a screen all day has a lot to do with this widespread problem. peer reviewed scientific studies support the notion that complex trauma really is extremely prevalent, and that its effects are as palpable and chronic as acute traumatic events (for example, childhood emotional abuse can have the same effect on the body as physical abuse). great therapists actually can make a huge difference in one's maturity and ability to have functional relationships (i’ve been fortunate to experience this change myself over the past four years) but there are SO FEW truly admirable therapists, even fewer who are affordable and accessible. if everyone could have a therapist (or better, a parent) who is a loving role model and a good example of how to live, i suspect a real mass healing really could take place. also, re: "woo culture"- mysticism is not reducible what you see on social media. the umbrellas of new age spirituality and alt spiritual healing cover a wide array of nuanced cultures and traditions which go back millenia, the serious practitioners of which are mostly not posting tiktoks & reels because they’re busy meditating and helping people in need. anyways, i would love to discuss further, and hope you continue to share your analysis on these subjects - you doing studio visits or gallery exhibits in LA ever?
HN
thank you father brad

the Healing Report is fantastic. Best one yet. But, brother, you gotta get a windscreen on that mic

I think the idea AHDH medication is being over prescribe is in itself sort of woo and anti science. Yes there are predatory telehealth schemes like done but this is not the case for the entire field. A bigger issue is access to medication :/

Did not expect this to end with an endorsement of healing retreats. Amazing work Brad!
