So happy you guys did this album!!! Scarface is one of my top 3 favorite artists of all time. He’s often described as “your favorite rappers favorite rapper.” His entire discography is immaculate. The level of story telling in addition to the lyricism just makes him something special. I also want to note that in “I see an a man die” his lyric “and the life you used to live will reflect in your mothers face” struck me in a way I don’t think any other lyric has before. Just such a beautifully tragic way to put it and adds to the overall heaviness already felt in that song. Would love to see you guys react to more of his music!! Especially his song “suicide note.”

Quick fact about Scarface’s name. His original name when he started with the Geto Boys was DJ Akshun (action). He recorded a song called Scarface and at the end of each verse, Akshun says “just call me Scarface” which was a nod to the Al Pacino played character from the movie of the same name. Scarface. After that song, and because the Geto Boys were fairly new, people started assuming DJ Akshun’s name was Scarface and the name stuck. Also, the strings in the intro and outro of The Diary are a remake of the same strings from the opening credits of the movie Scarface. The drums are different and more dramatic in The Diary’s intro/outro and the piano was added for dramatic effect as well.

I'd recommend UGKs Ridin Dirty over Supertight & DJ Screw's 3 N The Mornin Part 2 Blue over All Screwed Up. 3 N The Mornin' has Pimpin Pens, which is essential to DJ Screw & Houston rap in the 90s.

I gotta be honest alot of hip hop is inspired by the original class . Slick Rick , and Rakim just to name a few these dudes are considered legendary in Hip Jop it’s way more to hip hop then 2000s rap

You guys both catch things in the music that I’ve never noticed and I know these songs word for word Also love that your father can enjoy some pretty aggressive rap songs and actually be enjoying and looking for more from groups like Ghetto Boys and UGK

I am OBVIOUSLY so happy that you guys finally reacted to this one. Also...I got my "Seen a Man reaction that I've been asking for since day 1. SO glad you liked it! Face was a head of his time and his lyrics on all of his songs but especially that one is so cerebral. It's like a story, unlike no other in which he taps into this deeper mystery of life and death that we all know is there but find difficulty articulating. The imagery is brilliant. I also agree with dad. It seems like Face came at a time where people weren't necessarily checking for the south as much and this album, this masterpiece, kind of slipped through the cracks somehow. It's almost, unfairly, an underground classic but at the same time I could see how this could be your favorite rapper's album. Face had a preacher's voice that commands attention but gangsta at the same time...at the same time, he is self aware and has substance to his content. I could go on but I digress. I just really appreciate ya'll covering this one and so so pleased that you guys dug it.

As an older 90s hip hop woman, I didn't stream this later in life because it appeals to me less. In my opinion, the graphic violence makes it a tougher listen. I listened to gangsta rap as a teen & 20 something but tuned it out after awhile because I was looking for different substance, less misogynistic. I got a chance to listen to the musicality this time around and it sounds so crispy 🤗. Excellent album... my favs were The White Sheet & Hand of the Dead Body. Kai, I hope you get the chance to play "My Philosophy" by Boogie Down Productions. I think Dad would enjoy some edutainment hip hop. Are there any plans to listen to an Ice Cube album "Death Certificate" or "Amerikkkaz Most Wanted" 🤔
