I didn't run into any issues while using the V1 model when it came to the rigging, If I had to complain about something I would say the bone layers are a bit of a hassle to go through in 4.0+ since they are not named and there is like 30+ of them. If you are looking for suggestions, being able to control some of the shape keys via bone drivers would be a nice quality of life for animation. Keep up the good work!
