My co-worker Doug, the dish washer, had a boat on Detroit's upper east side, in the canal district at the southern end of Lake St. Claire. He'd take a few friends to Peche Island, Ontario over the border to Canada and have a few beers. Peche Island had been summer home to industrialist Horace Dodge, just the foundation remains. The rest of the tiny island is woodland. Doug and friends were tripping on acid one night so the story goes, and a younger "kid" got separated from the main party in the dark. The kid called the U.S. coast guard stationed on nearby Belle Isle, Michigan to report that the Blair Witch was stalking him. All got fines for traveling over the international border without notifying the proper authorities.
