Time-lapse of 2 hour demo
🕑 Added 2023-04-03 20:24:34 +0000 UTCOne of the benefits of using a time-lapse video demonstration is that it allows you guys to see the subject matter from a different perspective. Instead of just showing a real-time demonstration as usual, the time-lapse version can help highlight the key points and make them stand out.
I noticed I jump around a lot more than expected. This particular demonstration there was a lot of back and forth with the drawing so I guess that makes sense, if you are interested in seeing the whole version let me know. I may have to post it on a separate tier. For now, I recommend watching a few times and stopping the video along the way to contemplate staging of progression.

Hi Denise, the oleogel was used to lift the background. It's kind of a weird thing to do but I didn't want gamsol to drip down over my rose so it is more easily controlled by using a gel. The background got to opaque and it was making the whole thing feel flat.
Wow. I love how this went from 2D to where it feels I could cup the rose in my hand and smell it. I would love to see the second half slowed up to painting speed if more also request it. Question : so did you put on oleogel and wipe off some of the background? I couldn’t tell with stopping and starting it again. Thanks again. #goals.

This time it was for a variety of reasons, the two you mention as well as the fact that the darker underground made me have to pile on the paint and it was getting in my way as I got more accurate.

It was a walnut veneer with shellac.
Wow Michael, what a gorgeous painting. This rose looks like one I have a big bush of in my garden called the "Childrens rose" because it has hardly any thorns, flowers abundantly and has a gorgeous perfume. I love it. What is the board you are painting on? it looks great with the wood grain showing through

Special thanks to Kathleen Speranza for the amazing flower stand her husband made and gifted to me! It is a wonderful little tool that allows you to move the flower in a bunch of different positions. (not sure if they sell them or not)
