I'm going to be annoying, but I excuse myself on the basis that my family have been lumber mill operators since the 1700's. Soft wood is like pine and hemlock, it burns easily but quickly. To maintain a fire you need to start it with tinder, throw on soft wood to get it going, and then hard wood to produce actual heat.
I remember seeing this game on Giant Bomb and was like "I gotta get this!" I'm still naff at it but it's good fun and totally different from anything else I can think of.
