I’m so glad you understood the tuna melt scene as Ilya opening up to Shane. A lot of reactors think Ilya’s trying to rile him up by talking about girls but really he was trying to ask Shane what his sexuality is and whether Shane was sleeping with other people, just in a very roundabout way. There’s one insta account I follow where she interpreted it as Ilya is used to speaking in code because he grew up in an environment where he can’t be his genuine self. So he uses language that lets him ask a question without revealing too much about himself. And he always covers up sincerity with jokes (“I like you… not as a person of course”). So he tells Shane he was hooking up with girls to try and “ask” Shane if he’s doing the same. And poor Shane doesn’t understand at all because Shane needs more direct communication. Their personal and cultural barriers just made them unable to communicate with each other ☹️

The fact that Rozanov translates to “of the rose” or “son of the rose” in Russian makes it even crazier that Shane subconsciously chose to be with someone that is the socially acceptable version of Ilya and who’s literal name is Rose.

i’m glad episode five was getting its flowers but this is my favorite episode of the season. the editing on the club scene is top tier. looking forward to ep5!
