It shouldn't. It would either be pulled away by the counterweight, or if it was the counterweight that was cut off, it would wrap around the planet at least once and cause an extinction level cataclysm. So it probably was cut off a few miles up, and the leftover stem is just high enough to seem like it could be the whole thing.

Huh, i did not know that! Thank you for your answer, i just saw pic with colors, and waited here a raw version without it, and was surprised when saw none. Also cant wait for a new pages!
Arioch
I sometimes post individual WIP panels on the forums. I don't normally post them here, because I don't want to drive people crazy with notification emails when there isn't a whole page ready. The new pages will be posted tomorrow.
Bogdan Elizarov
By the way! There must be a new page already, there is a sneak peak pic with on the forum, but not on patreon, how’s that?

He was having his own nightmare for awhile. Then he saw approaching bright light - something we're quite familiar with already - and gone to this. It's not unreasonable to consider that Fireblade's watch ended while Alex was enjoying the re-runs of Authentic Asphyxiation Aexpirience, and now she joined in on the heat conservation operations, while Jardin is facing the unforseen consequences of that.

Quick qn. Not that I obsess about Outsider ... but is Fireblade asleep at this point? i.e. is this picking up bad dreams being dreamed right now, or is he picking up memories he 'copied over' during some previous connection? Does she have to be dreaming right now? Or is he picking up some shared communal dream from the pig pile?
John Dolan
Love the beanstalk BTW - though the fact that they sheathed the stalk structure as well speaks of a terrifyingly advanced materials science - the added mass for the cladding ... Or are there AGrav generators attached part way up?
John Dolan
Not excluding f) because she's the cutest. Although that would obviously be wrong because that distinction belongs to Talon and Spiral. :)
John Dolan
Have we decided yet if we think he's picking up thoughts from Fireblade because: a) Alex and Fireblade made a connection when she was involved in his interrogation; b) she's the strongest telepath around; c) she used telekinesis on him; d) she's the only one with weird alien thought implants; or e) something else?

Cant wait for the next page!

Yes, the damage wasn't as obvious in the WIP version.
John Dolan
Aah breaks in the beanstalk are more obvious now it's all coloured in ...
John Dolan
There are a couple of actual breaches of the stalk - one on the bottom (faint, just up and right of the characters head), and one on the far right of the pic directly above the page number. Would suggest it's falling because it's broken, not because it's a Tyrannid-hoover-up-the-civiilians feeding tube thing being lowered from orbit ...
Emalkartha
Maybe? It's maybe a beanstalk/space elevator type of structure? If so, the fact it bends at the ground is scarier than hell.
Classical Salamander
Nice! I really like how the clouds are parting around it... but is it falling?
William W Sellers
Could a telepath be a relay for others? Like a network?
Ronald Homer
From awake Fireblade to the Loroi sleep-pile, and then from the pile to Alex?
Olivier GRAVES
If it is the result of a kind of link with one or more Loroies, it is from someone who had seen quite some destruction. I vote for Fireblade, but she is currently on duty, not sleeping. So maaaaaybe Alex is wildly wandering within her mind, like a weather balloon in a storm.
JasonAW3
I hope that's not a skystalk, because if it is, it looks like it just started falling. An even if it separated at the geosynchronous kid point, at least part of that stalk will try to wrap.around the planet, at high hypersonic velocities. Not good for anyone on the ground, after a few hundred kilometers of it has wrapped around. Very not good...
Badminton
That's a hellofa idea
Leandro
For a moment I thought it was a stargate or some weird thing like that, but yeah looks like some sort of superstructure, like a space elevator.
I am convinced he is seeing the rest of Fireblades memories :'( The feels...

I, personaly think this is some kind of Umiak’s extraction pipe, and it’s moving captives into the orbit (Tyranid style)
Sturzkampf
All part of the fiendish Loroi's cunning plan to get Alex (and humanity) on their side. :-)
Valdis Trautmanis
Seren after the bug invasion? And that would be a collapsing space elevator?
Arioch
Nope.
Alexander Freeman
End of the chapter? :P
Shane Wegner
Gonna get a little wild! He's not from 'round here. He's from another di-mension! No wait, same dimension, different part of galaxy. Although maybe psi has extra-dimensional qualities.

Ooooooo boy. Is Alex inside Fireblade's memories? That's gonna be...interesting.
Wabbit
Sleeping in a pile of Loroi seems to have been all a bit too stimulating for poor little Alex ...
