Jardin has had a couple opportunities to observe the main combatants by now. I wonder if he's grokked on to their capabilities yet (in terms of acceleration, weapons range, etc.). I don't recall seeing any explicit statements to this effect in the comic.

When they get a moment, do they have a spare "Box'o'Optics" to go out and swap some of them out? I'm picturing suiting up and doing a spacewalk to swap some of them. Although realistically that's more of a "send a drone" task. Or maybe that's a complicated, in-port only level repair. I'm guessing they'd have a modular system that's pretty easy to swap, and maybe even a few spares on board. (Or could 3D print some.) Repairing ships back into rudimentary fighting shape that have suffered some damage is probably something they're pretty good at by now. Then again, maybe the assumption is a smaller scout like that isn't expected to survive enemy fire, but instead be an all or nothing total loss? Hmm. Guess we'll find out. No wait. This was the admiral's personal yacht? It's designed to be survivable, and that implies easy to field repair to always be in some kind of workable state.

Does that Barsam ship still know the are there and is maybe even coming to pick them up? Or did it get blown up as part of the Umiak sweeping the system? Maybe they didn't care enough to send any mop up forces to hunt it down. I had a random thought "Well, at least maybe the Farseers can spare a glance to see them floating out there." Then had an even more ironic thought "It would be painful if the Farseers can't even see that ship because Alex is on board."
