The size varies, but these are cyborgs, with just the core elements of the living Umiak, and the outside is a powered armor exoskeleton.
William W Sellers
Kind of establishes why the other species are nervous about the Loroi. And why Umiak would develop telepathy-jamming devices. And why Loroi would be REALLY nervous about Umiak capturing a telepathy amplifier.
William W Sellers
How big is the average Umiak? Was this ever established? I assume it must be in there for telepathy to work.

Tempo: gotcha!

I imagine it's a combination of testing done beforehand to see what system the individual works well with, the individual's preference, the local needs, and the local supply of materials.
John Dolan
So how does the Umiak design 'aesthetic' work? Is there some sort of testing that says 'this unit would work well with a number 3 crusher attachment' or is it down to the individual drones saying 'I'd really like to have a gun pod attachment cos they're cool'? I guess it's the same with ships?
John Dolan
Slightly more than Robocop then. :) Presumably in the pic above it' the torso / pod bit and the limbs are all mech.
Arioch
It varies (as with all things Umiak, the hardtroopers are heterogeneous), but usually it's a "total conversion" cyborg, retaining only the core biological systems (brain and nervous system, gut, organs and endocrine system).
John Dolan
Fab work! A question if I may - how much of the hardtroop is bug and how much is robot? I.e. big bug in a suit or a brain in a jar in the robots head?
Jonathan Werts
Ooh, I am enjoying these two strips - especially how the spymaster elf's eyes glow red, while Fireblade's eyes glow green. I'm so curious to get to the end of this arc!
Arioch
You haven't lived until you've tried ttkt with ktt't sauce.
Arioch
Teidar can speak when necessary -- it's not like they took an oath or something -- but it is tradition that they show their mental prowess by using telepathy even in the presence of a telepathic enemy. Using sign language would be functionally the same as speaking... it's admitting she's scared of the abilities of a telepathic opponent.
Olivier GRAVES
Hacking a brain to : a) change visual perception, hiding everybody in the vicinity; b) give him sudden huge craving for a ttkt with ktt't sauce; c) both above plus getting his twitter and linkedin id & password to wreck havoc his social and professional life.
Perrin Rynning
I'm looking forward to the Loroi getting introduced to a bizarre Human practice called "sign-language". Can the "Unsheathed" use that to communicate, since it's not 'voice' but very useful in battle?

fantastic artwork and story

and no stairs! :)

if memory serves, the Enemy believe that every individual needs to prove/demonstrate their ability to apply themselves and better themselves...unless thats not true or i misunderstood it?

Really digging the design!

If the enemy were smart, (and to be honest, I don't see that happening) I'd be using teleoperated robots rather than people in much suits...

is that the older brother of TF-209? "you have 20 seconds to comply ..."
