Thanks, Chantal. Will keep those in mind! (dad)

Mariah is the Queen of Remixesā£ļø When I grew up, Fantasy remix was way more culturally popular than the original when it came out. The original is pop and remix is for hip hop/r&b fans. Latto sampled the remix. Also, a big part of the Fantasy remix is the use of the Genius of Love sample. If I recall correctly, at some point in childhood ODB and Mariah attended the same school hence going back like babies with pacifiers. 🄰 Mariah really pioneered rap/hip hop collaborations with pop music via remixesā€¼ļøHere are a few Mariah remixes I suggest you check out as she re-sung each of these and the arrangements are very different from the originals. A couple are deep cuts. All the remix videos are available on YouTube. 🤩 ā–«ļøThank God I Found You (Make it Last remix) ft Nas and Joe ā–«ļøMy All/Stay A While remix ft Lord Tariq and Peter Gunz ā–«ļøHeartbreaker remix ft Missy Elliott and Da Brat ā–«ļøH.A.T.E.U remix ft Gucci Mane, OJ Da Juiceman and Big Boi ā–«ļøDon't Forget About Us (desert storm remix) ft Fabolous and Styles P

I appreciate you guys take on Hip Hop and R&B music but you have to take in account being there during the actual era and most importantly the culture. The remix was the biggest thing on radio at the time. Keep up the good work guys.

The Diddy adlibs didn't age well...lol

ProRenae

You beat me to the Tom Tom Club info...lol

Mariah Carey feat Bone Thugs - Breakdown Mariah Carey feat Jermaine Dupri - Sweetheart

AndrƩ Monteiro

My song suggestion would be Air - La Femme D'Argent. Acid jazz with Pink Floyd influence

Long shot, but here it goes: I'd like to suggest a reaction that compares the original version of a song with the version done by DJ Screw. Point Blank "My Mind Went Blank" from his "Mad at the World" album vs the version on DJ Screw's "All Screwed Up, Vol. II".

Raven

Whenever you decide to do Nicki Minaj, I recommend Roman’s Revenge ft Eminem, which fueled her feud with Lil Kim back in 2010. It has a very unique sound and wild lyrics lol

Tnulb

Lookin at the front door is a great song. Good recommendation

Drea Lansiquot

Please do a review of the Biggie and Tupac song ā€œRunningā€ which was produced by Eminem. Ooh also Mariah Carey ft Bone Thugs.. ā€œBreakdownā€ which is amazing!!!! Those are faves from my playlist

PC Suggestion: Main Source - Lookin at the front Door Living Color - Love Rears Its Ugly Head

Tina E

PC23 Suggestions: Since you liked Fire & Desire, you should check out another Teena Marie song. She has a serious catalog. "Dear Mr. Gaye" was written right after Marvin Gaye passed away. Or consider "We've Got to Stop Meeting Like This" feat. Ronnie McNeir. Her voice is so powerful.

Tina E

Ooo! Also Nikki's verse on Kanye's "Monster" is one of my favorites.

Tina E

Oh pleeeeeeeeeze do this song. It is Amaz-BALLS!! Whitney AND Mariah on the same track... there's almost nothing better in the whole world.

Veronica Estrell

Please start off with Nicki and drake Moment for life if your going to start Nicki minaj.

Jen M

I did want to say, ā€œyou kinda had to be there!ā€ Lol! But you said it much more eloquently than I could have. 🤣

The Afro Buddha

Couldnt wait for you guys to get to this one. I actually forgot how good the original is because almost no one played it after the remix came out and I'd be willing to bet money that 90% of life long hiphop and r&b fans prefer the remix. This was one of those " you had to be there" feelings because this song represents really the FIRST time a hardcore rapper collaborated with someone like Mariah who was a massive pop/r&b success. There was MASSIVE push back from her label but she insisted that she wanted to do this with ODB. Nobody thought it would work yet it did. This song in many ways invented the collaboration between 2 styles like this. It was an iconic moment.

Ruben Reyes

My song suggestion for next week is We Used To Wait by Arcade Fire

Precious

Also, Dad mentioned Whitney Houston. Mariah Carey & Whitney have a song together ā€œWhen You Believeā€ from the Prince of Egypt soundtrack. It’s really beautiful.

Precious

This song samples ā€˜Genius of Love' by Tom Tom Club. I read her book and it’s an interesting story behind the remix song collaboration.

Anthony Mendoza

PC23 suggestion: Don’t Give Me No Bammer Weed by RBL Posse This is a really dope 90s rap group from San Francisco

Shaquea White

I haven't heard the original in so long that I forgot the arrangement. You should listen to Mariah Carey's first hit Vision on Love. Her catalogue is massive but Vision of Love is still my favorite. Also, Mariah sampled a song from Tom Tom Club. I can't remember the name of the song.

Jen M

Yay! Thanks for choosing this one!! Just an FYI, both versions as well as Latto’s song, sample a 1981 song called Genius of Love by Tom Tom Club. Some of it is word for word. I think some other rap songs sample it too. Over time, I’ve just learned to love the remix version better because it gets me hype when I need to do something. Plus, I mean, ā€œbabies with pacifiersā€ šŸ¤£šŸ˜†šŸ¤£ RIP to ODB! The original is featured in the movie, Rush Hour. I’m glad you both liked them! It’s a treat that you played both versions.
