I've been listening to the album a lot since we reacted and it has grown on me further. That mellow, nuanced inflection to her voice is so captivating and calms the spirit. - dad

Welcome to our Patreon, Ayannah! And thanks for your insight in to Jill and the purpose and significance of the the neo soul genre.

If u guys love NeoSoul—please react to Kem!!! Another NeoSoul artist, but don’t do the mainstream songs like Share My Life, dig deep with the songs like I’m missing you, You might Win, Heaven, Human Touch, Your on My Mind, Without You, and Find Your Way
Ayannah Tolliver
Wow, she gave u exactly what you asked for in Slowly, Surely in the live version..she broke it down! lol. Hope y’all get a chance to react to it.

Please react to the full live song of The Roots interlude, it’s soo good! That’s just the snippet of a live video of The Roots and Jill Scott called You Got Me. In fact, Erykah Badu is singing with her. That’s where the cuts ur hearing from the intro and that interlude is coming from. This was her debut introduction to the world when they did that live at Dave Chapelles’s Block Party in NY.

Love Rain-“the rain was fallen, and I could not see that I was to be plowed in, sewn and FERTILIZED to be left to drown in his sunny afternoon, cumulus cloud, 84 degrees—-to me it meant it was suppose to sprout and grow but he SHITTED on me (Fertilized)..cumulus cloud 84 degrees is showing that it’s HOT SHIT! Drowning in his HOT BULLSHIT 😂😂😂

Jill started off in Philly doing Open Mic with her poetry. That’s how we all was introduced to her, I didn’t even know she could sing until she started joining The Roots lol.

The moment I seen yall react to Jill I had to join Patreon! I’m from Philly and Jill has helped raised me thru her music. Just started the video but I’m at the hardship convo—living in Philly hardship is an understatement and Jill is from the heart of North Philly which is in the thick of it all. I don’t think she talks about it because back then neo soul was all about getting us thru the hardship, escaping it thru the music—seeing the beauty in life, revitalizing your soul no matter where ur at in the world hence…Neo(new) Soul. NeoSoul is meant to uplift you thru hardship —not magnify it. Just my 2 cents. Love what u guys are doing. So happy u are seeing this side of our community. This is the heart of us, not what mainstream pushes out. I’d like to think u hear the trashy music today because of what neo soul was creating in the 2000s-it’s against the status quo to promote this for a generation.

This was beautiful. When I saw on YouTube that you guys reacted to this album, I had to come back to Patreon. This is definitely in my top 5 albums ever and a great listen beginning to end! I’m glad you both enjoyed it! Made my day!!

Can y’all please react to the weekend house of balloons album and jhene aiko trip album

Since you pointed out the spoken word aspect of Jill’s music, I think you would enjoy Meshell Ndegeocello. Her music is genre less, however, many credit her as one of the pioneers of Neo Soul.

Thanks for this reaction. I had the pleasure of seeing Jill Scott in concert with Anthony Hamilton as the opener. One of the best concert experiences…Absolutely correct, Dad. The world would be a better place if everyone listened to Neo Soul.

The song "It's Love" is a tribute to Go-Go music, which is big in the DC, Maryland, Northern Virginia Area.

Been asking for this for a while!!

Hey guys new to your Patreon. You guys get me through my workdays. You guys have to check out one of, if not the best rnb album ever. Donel Jones. Where I want to be. Every single song is a banger.

On "Exclusively" Jill makes love and goes to the market with Raheem's cologne fragrance on her. The other woman recognized it and asks if she's with someone named Raheem. Jill says "yes" which leads us into the next song, "Gettin In The Way", and that's her singing all the lead vocals. She just has a wide range of vocal stylings. Vidal Davis is a producer.

Very special album from Jill. Has aged so well. U guys need to round it out with listening to Lauryn Hill’s and India Arie’s first albums. Great music

“Now, did you know Roy Ayers before we listened to that track?” Don’t be tryna test Kai’s gangsta! 😂🤣
TheKitt’sPajamas
Slowly Surely is not meant to be a “song”. It’s meant to be meditation/chant/affirmation. Yes she’s saying it herself but it’s also meant for anyone who needs it to borrow it and use it for themselves. Brotha isn’t about one person, it’s about black men as a whole.

Wow, very cool memory! (dad)

I loooove that she chose to do It’s Love in the style of some good old Chuck Brown gogo! When that song came out we went crazy for it in DC! We ate it up! It’s so awesome when ppl show DC love! 🥰 And of course all the gogo bands in DC were covering it during their shows… 🔥🔥🔥

“I got my wine. I got my new slacks on…” 😂😂😂 Iktr!

CLASSIC album. I have the promotional t shirt for this album. I used to work promotions for Hidden Beach and got to meet and hang (and smoke) with Jill a few times back in this era. She was great each time. Surprisingly, I didn't get the shirt from doing that work, I thrifted it.
Gemintheye
Maybe will get a slum village or jdilla reaction next👀😂🤍
djhyjak
It's Love is a GoGo music Track, gogo music is a subsect of funk popular in DC,
Gemintheye
Yayyy I'm so glad for the Jill Scott album
