Got To Give It Up by Marvin Gaye reminds me of summer. It's a classic played at cookouts and family events in the Black community. It's the song where we get in a "soul train line" & take turns doing our signature moves 💃 It's featured in movies as part of the culture.

Kai, glad you clarified when you said there was a lot of music in that song. 😂 BB is like an anthem for black women. It’s meant to inspire and motivate, the butterfly (to me) represents the black woman (past and present). Just a sample of the lyrics: “'Cause now that you're free and the world has come to see Just how proud and beautiful you are Black butterfly, sailed across the waters Tell your sons and daughters What the struggle brings Black Butterfly, set the skies on fire Rise up even higher So the ageless winds of time can catch your wings” I think the music had to be big to match her voice and lyrics. But I see what you mean. It’s a really beautiful song overall.

Not sure if this will really be a PC80 contender.. but here's my pick. :) Talking Heads - This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody) Truly a unique feeling. For me, this song feels like summer winding down—warm, simple, and grounding. It's quietly cathartic - coming down from a carefree sun-drenched high, floating into the comfort and reflection of fall. Conjures up memories of home, youth, relaxing at beach, watching the sunset. ☀️

The first part of his name is pronounced as "poe" like Edgar Allen. He's a pretty good artist.

Yall should listen to more of John Legend’s discography, it’s good. Black Butterfly- is about Civil Rights and was a song featured in one of the many movies about MLK. PC 80- Hot Sun in the Summertime- Sly and the Family Stone - if it hasnt been covered. Fire - The Ohio Players

I’m gonna change my summer themed suggestion and go with Posse on Broadway by Sir-Mix-A Lot for PC:80 It’s more fun and nostalgic than my last suggestion 😂

Free would fit nicely into the Summer theme I think.

I'm at work and it took everything in me not to belt out Black Butterfly. So funny you said it's night time. This song frequented the "Quiet Storm" segments (night time programming) of many R&B stations. Now you should listen to her song Free.

Thanks for listening to my suggestion of Deniece Williams. I'm not sure that you guys understand that this song is about black people's struggles, empowerment, hope and triumphs. I didn't understand what the song was about until I was a teenager. This is my favorite Deniece Williams song.

fyi Vanessa Williams a big deal . she was the first black woman to be Miss America in 1984 (though taken from he by a playboy scandal), She is a multi Grammy winner, Tony-nominated, and accomplished actress. Should check out some of her music too Vanessa Williams - The Right Stuff, Save The Best For Last, or Comfort Zone.
