haven’t finished watching but to your point about “challenging the patriarchy” there was a good episode on mormon stories podcast called “soft swinging mormons on ketamine?” that basically says ya they’re challenging strict gender norms in mormon culture and they may be distancing themselves from the church, but they have yet to break into how the patriarchy actually impacts all of these pieces in more nuanced ways.
