Our company has an office there and it seems pretty much business as usual. We will be going there on a business trip next month. Actually even the folks in Shanghai are saying things are fine as they don't really get involved in the riots.

The real safety tell is when you can see people leave helmets on bikes, just leave them hanging without using special locks, and without a camera right nearby. I have seen places where that is the norm, but not in China. Her first motorbike with a bag was parked directly below a pole with a big CCTV sign and camera, and I have not been able to spot any helmets. The lady should try leaving her wallet or credit card somewhere. I know places where she can return and get them back the next day, but no they are not in China.
