Well, it's not quite that simple. There's a complex web of red tape to navigate through first, as we encounter newts, nesting birds, building sub-committees and mountains of paperwork. Fortunately, as Helen Geake recently explained on Patreon, nobody knows this stuff better than Jim Mower.
A very capable archaeologist in his own right, Jim's Time Team journey began many years ago as a digger – you might remember him as the hapless prisoner in the 'Jailhouse Rocks' reconstruction (S10E13). But his skills were equally treasured off-screen as he demonstrated a clear knack for resolving the various challenges, both in organising a responsible excavation and producing great television.
Tim catches up with Jim to share their unrivalled experience and insights, taking us through several different site scenarios in our very first Patreon Masterclass.

I would like to read some of the academic papers that were prepared from the shows. Are those available digitally? How can I find these ?

Loved hearing all about the mechanics needed to drive a dig forward. This is where the business side of Time Team meets the business side. Be great to hear more about the actual financing and business structure needed to make Time Team a success.

I haven't gone looking for any of the grey reports yet but I second Elizabeth's question if there are some that aren't online or are in some obscure location. Maybe we could have the links put somewhere on the Patreon page?

Very interesting. Two things struck me: this is all essential but very time-consuming (and therefore expensive), and, secondly, the discussion brings out the point that it is by having an excellent reputation for a thorough approach that TT gains access to some of the most interesting and sensitive sites.
