I can see that higher numbers of items in an area indicates human activity but couldn't they be evidence of a midden? A midden wouldn't be close to housing by and large.

This does highlight the importance of community involvement, and is , I think, Time Team's greatest legacy.

Hi Morgan, the cartoon featured in the programme was a Victor Ambrus original! As well as creating his wonderfully evocative reconstructions, Victor was also an excellent cartoonist, occasionally offering a more irreverent take on a scene.

Robert Wise 1 minute ago About that bone needle … the camera footage shows the needle being uncovered, and it appears that the needle was point upwards in the interior of the posthole, in the area that might have been occupied by the post before it rotted away. I’m wondering how the needle came to be in that position and location. Was it inserted in a hole or crack in the bottom of the post before the post was planted in the earth? Was it set in the hole beside the post and soil packed back around it? And…whatever the cause, wasn’t that a pretty significant symbolic action by whoever left the needle?

The tip on fieldwalking was useful. Compared to the original it is dry - it used to great to see people having fun together - but I know you are working under covid limitations. The picture of the Vikings in a boat was cartoonish - not like the beautiful pictures you used to have.
