Time Team: Update – 2021 digs, next year and more!

It's so nice to see Time Team back on my Screen. When I was a small Kid my big Sister and I went to Xanten where our Great Grand Uncle was a Site Director and I wanted to become an Archeologist like him. After this trip, I would use smashed garden pots and hide them in my Mom's garden to dig up "Roman Pot". As I became older I forgot about my Archeologie Dream and last year I found Time Team on Youtube and my dream came back. And hopefully, in a not too faraway future, I will dig up real Roman Pot. Long Story Short. Thank you Time Team for finding my Childhood Dream again.

I’d really like to see more of the pub discussions at the end of the day!! Obviously, the people involved do want some “no camera” time too, but I love the snippets we got in the old series…also..it would prove beyond doubt whether John Gater ever actually gets a round in….

I think longer and more in depth episodes would be great. There must be soo much that has to be left out in a 45 min episode.

Reward the Patreons with full detail releases, while short releases ( 3 mins) entice viewers on YouT.

I would like to hear about decisions: ooh lookit the geophys here, let's put the trench across that... Or here are parchmarks... And all the crazy discussions about "what in the world is that???" The behind the scenes conversations.

Having each dig as say 3 half-hour episodes, one per day would be very welcome, but I can also see a condensed version nearer 45-50 minutes (more like the original) as having its place... Maybe the single episode and a separate "Extra Time (Team)" with more details and info would be the best approach?

I agree wholeheartedly - more depth and more detail will always be welcomed by me. Getting to see some of the behind the scenes stuff has been great, but given TT no longer has to fit everything into one episode, a number of "specials" giving deep dives into parts of the dig would be a great addition. As an aside, I have always wondered what happens before and after a dig - we have some idea now of the planning beforehand, but what happens once the cameras are turned off, how is the site recorded and trenches filled in? IMHO, too much Time Team is never enough! 8^)

Have I missed, given that I only recently joined the Patreon effort, or could we perhaps get, an hour long video on the evolution of the Geophysics techniques utilized by John Gater and his team? We watched the equipment improve across the duration of the original tv show and it would be interesting to see how it improved between the original series and today. Respectfully.

I'm with Richard, the more detail, the better. I'd much rather watch 20-30 hours of detailed footage and explanation of what was being done, and why, than a three hour summary, when I can do so via the computer and at my own pace. Obviously, no one is going to sit down to 20-30 hours of tv, but if I can binge watch a full day's worth of a single Time Team dig, what a good day that would be :)

There was a time when all documentary type programmes were crammed into the 45 minute / 1 hour time slot, with the belief that the viewing public would not have the attention span to see the story told over multiple episodes. Yet with the age of streaming some of the most successful documentaries have been those where the story is told in greater detail and over a number of episodes. There is no doubt that Time Team could do likewise.
