I do wonder when the field will stop using the term Anglo Saxon and begin using Early Medieval, Post Roman, or something else. I think the field has firmly established that there was not a near total population replacement after the Roman administrative withdrawal in the early 5th century. As such, the population remained primarily British. What we are really looking at is a cultural shift driven in part by the increase in North Sea trade as opposed with trade within the Roman Empire. At any rate, it would be nice if we could make the change.

Here’s a dumb question: instead of just saying we need to reach 8000 patrons, what about saying to the current patrons if we increase our giving by x%, we can add the third site. What I love about Time Team is the diversity of British sites and how each dig adds to the collective knowledge of British history. As for the Greek site, getting certain Archaeology magazines keeps me up-to-date with the various excavations that are ongoing over there. As such I can't see how it would add much to the ongoing narrative and understanding. Yes it might be pretty and produce "nice" finds but I am not certain convinced that it would be more than that.

I believe that this (Greek) dig is extremely important. It adds much needed expertise, exposure and resources to an in progress effort. The understanding of the foundations of ancient cultures is paramount. Greece is critically important. The modern language is an isolate. Greece is the only modern country that routinely produces resinated (Retsina) wine. Understanding of the tenacity of such social values and traditions depends upon the revelation of the antecedents in great and exquisite detail.

E and B - full disclosure, I'm in the U.S., so the possible linkages to the U.S. are intriguing. I'm a member of Colonial Williamsburg and always found their articles (from their now-defunct Journal) on connections between the colonies and England very broadening and illuminating. Learning of connections even further removed is like a cherry on top! Further to E, I would love to see some more community involvement, I admit I live vicariously through them, but in teaching the community, we all learn, as well. And it's heartwarming to see people so interested in their history, I have to support anything that aids in that discovery.

1st Choice D cos the Romans are the most interesting to me personally. A and E are my second and third.. ancient Greek settlement in Britain? is there such a thing? or are u going to Greece? I think one episode there were evidence of a Greek doctor's implements. I thought the dig in Southern France looking for Beaker people evidence was tough ..where are my diggers asked Phil? and inconclusive and seemed like a bit of a waste of time. If prefer we stick to Britain and/or Ireland.

It seems to be a loosing cause, but I chose the village community test pit. The Greek site is fascinating but TT's MO is quick survey work, not the extended work necessary for such a complex ancient site. TT's MO is also most brilliantly connected with the popularization of archaeology and community involvement in the discovery and preservation of historical treasures of all kinds. I think this element needs to retain the greatest emphasis if TT is to remain relevant and not just another "content provider."
