We hope you enjoyed the third and final day of our Roman villa excavation on the Broughton Castle estate. Although the three days are up, the journey is far from over.
As Emily highlighted in the Big Dome Review aftershow event, we have more coverage to come, both following the story of the castle and sharing further post-excavation insights.
In addition, as Tim exclusively revealed, plans are already underfoot to return to investigate the intriguing sarcophagus at the centre of the story.
We also heard from Adam Stanford, the man behind our stunning aerial photogrammetry models. There are many more of these to come, so let's take a closer look at that sarcophagus.

Post-Excavation Update
Post-ex analysis is still ongoing for both of Time Team's recent digs. This is typically a complex and time-consuming process, involving the insights of a wide range of experts in various disciplines, which are then collated and compiled into the final report. We'll be sharing much more information on specific finds, trenches and developments as the process progresses, so please watch this space for further updates.

If I understand correctly, burials along a road would have been normal practice in Roman times, so I would expect a row of graves. Also, again if I understand this correctly, settlements would be at crossroads, so I'd expect two roads to be present and perhaps graves along each. The skeleton is probably not available for DNA analysis, which rules out getting a stronger idea of what she looked like in reality. Not sure if the soil is suitable, either, although if there are bones, I'd have thought there would be a chance. If other graves are found, it would be intriguing to know what could be learned that way. As far as the grains are concerned, I don't know if the specific cultivars can be identified, but it would be fun to see if that changed over the occupation. Possible funding idea - reproductions of items, such as an accurate reconstruction of the mirror, might appeal to some viewers and there are people dedicated to making such things. Is there any way this could be ethically utilised?

This is amazing. You can see a hint of some of the carving Derek and Lawrence mentioned in the episode. Can't wait for the team to go back and complete the excavation.
