S21 | Dig 2: Roman Glazed Vessel - 3D Model
🕑 Added 2022-04-12 15:19:41 +0000 UTCThere are times in archaeology when it feels as if you are reaching out and physically touching the past. A wonderful example is this base of a vessel discovered at Broughton, impressed with the thumbprint of the potter who made it, some 1500 to 2000 years ago.

Post-Excavation Update
Post-ex analysis is still ongoing for both of Time Team's recent digs. This is typically a complex and time-consuming process, involving the insights of a wide range of experts in various disciplines, which are then collated and compiled into the final report. We'll be sharing much more information on specific finds, trenches and developments as the process progresses, so please watch this space for further updates.

IANAH, but I can give you some answers. First, it's not a stupid question. The fact is that not all Romans left at the same time, and some never left. People talk about the Romans leaving in 410, but that's when the last of the Army left. Probably a lot of administrators and wealthy people left with them. In that year, Emperor Honorius sent a letter to Britain telling them that they were on their own. They didn't come just from Italy, but from all over the Empire. The remains of the army went to the northern frontiers to try to defend the Roman heartlands in the Continent. I have a question an hope it doesn't make me sound stupid. I was wondering where the Romans left to when they left England. And where did they come from when they landed here. So I suppose where are the Romans Originally from? Hope I don't sound stupid for asking.
