S22 | Dig Watch 2022 Resumes: Updated Schedule
🕑 Added 2022-09-21 12:47:21 +0000 UTCAnglo-Saxon Cemetery (East Anglia): 23rd to 25th September
We're excited to confirm that our full Dig Watch coverage will resume this weekend, with action 'live from the field' of our second dig: an Anglo-Saxon cemetery.
During the dig itself, you'll be treated to:
- Daily 'Site Walkabout' trench tours
- 'Spoil Heap' Q&As with the team
- Maps and models
- Behind-the-scenes production insights
All posted directly from the site, with a whole host of additional insights to follow in the weeks ahead.
What's more, we're thrilled to announce some very special guests and old friends will be with us to complement the regular team, including:
- Bone expert, Jackie McKinley
- Everyone's favourite Saxon lyre player, Sam Newton
- Medieval pottery whizz, Paul Blinkhorn
- Sutton Hoo archaeologist, Martin Carver
- Early Medieval specialist, Helena Hamerow
- GPR guru, Jimmy Adcock (and his trainers)
We'll be chatting to as many of the team as we can, so what would you like to ask them? Keep a look out for an upcoming post with all details on how to submit your questions.
This particular site was put forward by Time Team's own Helen Geake, and the pressure is on to match the incredible location selected by Stewart Ainsworth.
Can we do it? Join us to find out!
Knights Hospitaller Preceptory (Shropshire): 30th September to 2nd October
But the action doesn't stop there... The following weekend, we'll be back with the postponed coverage of our first dig: a Knights Hospitaller Preceptory on the Welsh Marches.
Over the summer, this fascinating story took us to the archives in Malta. Now, the full team have descended upon Oswestry, Shropshire to investigate the stunning grounds of Halston Estate and nearby Whittington Castle.
We have a range of exclusive behind-the-scenes insights lined up that we can't wait to share with you. Get ready for more Site Walkabouts, Spoil Heap Q&As, plenty of banter, and perhaps even the odd re-enactor thrown in for good measure!
