S21 | Broughton Post-Ex 3: Photogrammetry

You may remember a mysterious object discovered at Broughton Roman villa that we posted a while back – at the time, one patron described it as a Bronze Age spacehopper! In fact, as Dani explains, it's a post-Medieval crotal bell, likely worn by livestock.

Hi Christopher, apologies we should have labelled that specific image to avoid confusion - that's a comparative example of another crotal bell found elsewhere, illustrating what it would have looked like complete with the top loop for fastening still fully attached.

Very neat, thanks for this! One query though, at the end it gives a PAS find ID of 614307 but whilst that is indeed a crotal bell it seems that one was found in 2013 near Winchester according to the PAS website. Did I miss something perhaps? https://finds.org.uk/database/artefacts/record/id/614307
