Dig Watch: BoB Operation Nightingale (Wiltshire): Tree Carving – 3D model
🕑 Added 2023-05-12 12:05:47 +0000 UTCWe know how eager you all are to see the conclusion of our Band of Brothers dig. We've been equally excited to share the daily updates in Aldbourne and are just as sad to see it come to an end. However, the great news is: this is just the start!
With Sir Tony arriving on Day 8, we focussed much of our attention in the remaining hours on filming content for the upcoming Time Team Special. We could only share a small fraction of the activites 'live from the field' and we cannot wait to share the completed programme.
Full details of the release timeframe will be shared in due course. Right now, we are already busy preparing for our next dig and we'll have more info on that very soon.
Tree Carving 3D Model
One of our favourite moments from Aldbourne was Derek and Lawrence's investigation of tree carvings created by the US servicemen. Derek and Lawrence created a wonderful 3D model that you can access on Sketchfab HERE.
This model also provides a new 'Word of the Day' to impress your friends: 'arborglyph' - enjoy!

I would love that. I learned how to use STLs in AlphaCam to cut with a CNC router (wood).

Yes, veterans organization is a more appropriate expression. I’m a lifetime member of two U.S. veterans orgs so should have thought of that. Brits often use the charity term which must have wormed into my brain.

There are names and dates carved in beech trees all over our farm. It is tradition for visitors and family to leave their name or initial and the date, now I can ask visitors if they would like to leave an arborglyph. Love it!

Thanks for the update. You have a small typo in your 'Word of the Day': it should be "arborglyph" (note the extra "r").
