A stunning piece, and a brilliant 3D rendering, thank you. So similar to the Staffordshire Hoard, they really liked this garnet and gold combo, and who can blame them! For those interested in going down the rabbit hole of Saxon jewelry, there's an interesting article on the thegns.org blog titled "The Garnet Code", exploring the significance of the garnet in Saxon jewelry related to its geometric shape. If nothing else, it's thought provoking.

I wonder what the time difference is between this burial and Sutton Hoo burials. The jewellery as is stated is less polished as the other types of anglo-saxon jewellery. Could it be older? People start making jewellery and they get better and fine tune over the years, or even pass on the skills, teaching the younger generations. This could be one of the first of its kind. Just a thought…

Does anyone know if it's possible to have alternative audio tracks on Youtube? If so, it would be a good idea to have both an "accessible" version as well as the one with the background music. For me the background music is an important part of the "Time Team experience", but it is of course also important to make the content accessible to everyone.

That's what I was wondering too. Thanks for providing a likely explanation, Loz. I suppose the polished bone was a rounded disk with a hole in the middle and the gold shaft of of the "nipple" was put through it and secured in the back with that other gem? This is one hefty and engineered piece of jewelry.
