I love the British cult film as much as I love Time Team on Patreon-new member here from Canada, BC. The Full Monty, set in Sheffield is brilliant addressing our true challenges of being human, holding love and allowing for differences. Such an unusual movie of real human angst and struggles in community, field of Men's work and in the family and the boy himself.

Stephen Southworth

A new one on me…never seen this before and completely fascinating! I’m not sure today’s Health and Safety and liability insurers would allow Phil anywhere near some of those contraptions now!

Douglas Shomo

From the ancient stone tools to the handmade steel tools there is much skill and knowledge that may be lost if their are not serious efforts to retain these processes as well as the final products.

Joanne Kellam

Thanks for sharing this episode! I had never seen this one before either. What a beautiful knife that Phil and the experts made! Great to see Naomi at the early stage of her career. How long after this did she join Time Team?

Paul Brekke

I thought I had seen almost every episode of Time Team, but this one was new to me! Great to find "new old stock" Time Team here on Patreon - hope there's more to come! :-) Thank you, TT!

Martin Packer

Was in Sheffield for a customer workshop in a hotel by Tinsley Canal in February. Now I understand a bit more about what I saw.

Melissa Nelson

I have never seen this. It was fascinating. I am so excited for future specials!

Jim Markey

Really Great to see this episode again. thank-you Time Team Patreon

Bron Lloyd

Time Team - any chance of getting Naomi to comment on her memories of this dig? :)

Bron Lloyd

I loved that!

Patricia Amero

I could think of a valid comment for every 5 minutes of video, I don't know where to begin. Extremely interesting archaeology, and fantastic archaeological & historical research projects, all bringing to light the technology, experience, immense labour & compelling social struggles of a time in Sheffield's industrial past. HUGE respect 🙏 Thank you Time Team, for telling their stories so well.

Zoe Propper

Think I missed this one first time around. Did spot Naomi though 👋

Jon Colcord

It’s a baby Naomi! I was NOT expecting that! 😁

Marcus Lindström

Oh totally. I didn't think they would be public soon, but maybe in a year or so, as posts can easily get lost on Patreon. I am so grateful for you to uploading all this older stuff for us :D

I visited the special steels division in Sheffield back in 1969 accompanied by a pensioner who had spent his whole life making steel in Sheffield. He proudly showed me the new arc furnaces at the time and the guys still rolling vast baulks of red hot steel weighing tons through the rollers with just a flick of the wrist. The noise was deafening, the heat burned the skin, red hot sparks were flying everywhere. I readily admit it terrified me - a vision of hell. And this was 1969. I shudder to think how hard the work was a hundred years before. These men would leave work and down 10 pints at the pub just to rehydrate themselves. The skills of these guys was tremendous, now sadly lost.

I had claimed to have seen every episode until this one. This was my first viewing. Oh, what a feeling to view a "fresh" episode. It's like I had traveled back in time to 2004. Well done.

Time Team

So did we!

Some Specials may be available in certain regions on other services, depending on the territory. We intend to make these episodes publicly available at some stage in the future through our own channels, after the initial run for our Patreon audience. We love you to spread the word, however, we also wish to reward our most special supporters, and so ask that you please do not share links to any content delivered via Patreon outside of this platform. Thanks again, and look out for more Specials on the way!

John Riddell

I did cheer out loud when Tony did the intro….. I’m not afraid to admit it 😀

Carol Overrill

Yes, me too. It is nice that we get first view, but when can we share the link with others? A few Sheffielders I would like to send this to.

Jere Brinkley

Even better!!!

Marcus Lindström

I love this. I do however, even as a Patreon that these specials do become public (for non-Patreons) at some point. Both so the knowledge gets out there, and so these don't go lost. :)

David Cattermoul

I lived in South Yorkshire in the late 1980s. The industrial decay in Sheffield, at the time, was all around, particularly surrounding the railway line out to Rotherham and Doncaster. The vast majority has been swept away.

David Cattermoul

If memory serves, I think the knife went into the Cutlery Museum in Sheffield.

Martha Berryman

Heartily agree with site archaeologists that the Sheffield site is about so much more than the tools and technologies of industrial manufacturing. It is about the people, the highly skilled craftspeople, the situations and environments of their lives in the making of that industrial production and remaking of our Modern ways of life--as well as the cruelties of working life.

Don Dodson

Wonderful example of Time Team's commitment to excellence in research, script writing, videography, collaboration and story telling. Thank you all involved.

Jere Brinkley

Excellent and the knife also! By the by would the knife be avalable for sale or raffle????

Evelyn G Kimbrell

I thought I'd seen all the TT specials, until I watched this. It was great to see Naomi beginning her career, as well as the TT regulars with their easy way of bringing life to archaeology. I'd love to see the finished knife that Phil worked on. Thanks, TT!

Mark Kenney

Was this Naomi's first appearance on a Time Team Show? She looks SO young here. :)

Frank Hoeppel

Excellent viewing. Best $8 I spend a month.

Matthew Rice

Been looking forward to the release of new “Classic” since they were first teased! Just watched this one and loved it! Mick, Phil and Naomi doing their thing! Learned a thing or two about “Sheffield Steel”. Loved it!
