Dig Watch | Anglo-Saxon Cemetery: Spoil Heap Q&A - John Gater
🕑 Added 2023-12-06 17:49:50 +0000 UTCFollowing the release of the Anglo-Saxon Cemetery feature-length edit, here's Dr John Gater, reflecting on the experience at the end of Day Three. John waxes lyrical on his two favourite subjects (beer and geophysics), while raising a glass to our wonderful Director, Emily!
We have more behind-the-scenes insights still to come from this dig, including John's colleague, Jimmy Adcock, discussing the role of ground penetrating radar in measuring cracks.
Also coming up this month on Patreon, another Classic Special from the archives.
Don't forget, click on the 'Collections' tab at the top of the page to catch up on all the posts from our earlier digs.

I’m done now. Got a bit off track from the subject of archaeology and Time Team. This show’s popularity spread like wildfire all over the world. Who knew the field of archaeology was so interesting to millions of people!

In middle school I found a book about Egypt, its history and mummies. This ignited a fire. Then I discovered books on Pompeii, Greece, the Spartans, and Rome. And British history! So many books, so little time. I’m 74 now…🥹 Currently reading Bruce Alexander’s eleven books for the third time. Fun to read! Luckily we had no TV reception in the rural area I grew up in in Hawaii so my Dad would take us to Waialua Library near our neighborhood of Sunset Beach. The first books I enjoyed were the Heide in Switzerland series I found there.

I love the Time Team-long rivalry between John and Stewart's methodologies XD

Hi, we've got a range of masterclasses from various experts giving a deep dive into their specialisms in the Collections. Check them out here: https://www.patreon.com/collection/265770 (Note some masterclasses are available at a certain tier level.)

I'd love to have some segments where the big experts talk more in depth scientific discussions about how each of their specific skills and disciplines work. Like a proper learning course would be awesome

I am happy to be part of this incredible show, with these people I have been watching for years. I miss Mick, and it's a good feeling seeing how the kids have become Dr, Professors, For years time stood still watching rerun after rerun, then the magic begins anew again.

Dropped the book I was reading to watch this immediately! John is great, his lecture at a DigNation conference a few years ago (on YouTube) was one of the funniest presentations I've seen in a while
