Fourth of July
🕑 Added 2024-07-06 04:18:27 +0000 UTCThe primary content shoot for our 5th-annual Fourth of July special wrapped up yesterday, and it was a beast. I’ve been feeling a ton of pressure about this one all month because we’ve set the bar so high with these. The Brawl in 2020, the early gamble that was dedicating a video to Black Lives Matter being bullshit in 2021 (turned out to be right), the all around great video that was 2022’s SF trip, and last year’s love affair with Cynthia in New York…all great stuff. And I wanted this one to be even better.
Traveling on Probation is tough, but thankfully a story dominating LA right now is the downfall of Hollywood. Lowest Memorial Day box office in 30 years. Production fleeing the sate to the point where only 30% of film and television is shot in LA. And most of it is due to - keeping in line with our 4th of July themes - liberal mismanagement.
To touch on these themes, I went to an anti-America communism rally as Charlie Chaplin (yes: I was assaulted)
Since I had to super glue the fake mustache on and it wouldn’t come off, the rest of the day I spent dressed as a demented director. We toured the increasingly lifeless Hollywood streets on a Star tour bus and, bringing back a bit from 2020, i tailed gunned off the back with a directors Megaphone (yelling insults) until the whole operation got shut down.
Lastly, and this is one we’ve been thinking about forever, we hit a fake Jason Momoa bit with Leo that was out of control funny. Also, embedded in it were a lot of the themes leading to Hollywood decline: the death of “movie stars”, Covid, and DEI.
Next week is going to be a grueling edit, but it’ll be worth it, because these video are evergreen and get views/appreciation years and years after they’re posted.
