Sutton Hoo | Week 3: Highlights (Time Team)
🕑 Added 2024-06-24 09:50:36 +0000 UTCWithout further ado, let's take a look at highlights from Week 3 at Sutton Hoo!
It was an exciting stage in our excavation as we welcomed volunteers from Patreon and the National Trust to open a series of test pits in River View field, to help understand the wider landscape context .
As volunteers noted, they made some wondeful discoveries – the greatest of all being a global community of like-minded souls uniting in their love of archaeology!
The full conclusions of our test pit investigation will be shared in due course. For now, join us as a fly-on-the-wall for all the action.
Week 4
It's now our final week of the dig, which will wrap up with another special live show featuring Tony Robinson on Thursday 27th June. Further details to follow.

Such lovely people bringing a very positive viewing experience. Thank you.

There is a pity there is any involvement for disabled to be involved
Noel Draper
I offset quite a bit by only drinking the local beer in the evenings.
Dario
Great to see all the Patrons enjoying it so much. Brilliant presenting by Dani as usual. But no more info on the tantalising boat shape in the geophys from the end of week 2….the cliffhanging continues!
Shannon Wells
I was there in spirit, I really was. I am so glad that Time Team gave even just a few of us the chance to be with you. Maybe next time I can join you!
Patricia Amero
Listening to the Patron's comments, thinking "Yeah, me too" over and over again... I got a bit choked up. Feeling at home on here with friends I may never meet in person (or maybe I will) ... like a virtual coffee shop or pub. No judgement. No anger. Just a common Time Team love of Archaeology, History & cool tec. So proud to be here. Cheers everyone ☕🍺🍷
Lee Anne D.
What an amazing experience for them! I hope it was well received by the crew so it can perhaps be offered again.

I wish I could have been there, it looked magical to see everyone working towards building the sites story
Carl Johnson
So many finds. I'm guessing each test pit could equal out to a month of work depending on the quality and quantity of the finds.
Bethanny Allain
Thank you for sharing this. I am enjoying these weekly updates from my home in Western Massachusetts.
Louise Burdett
He was absolutely delightful. Had a lovely chat around Anglo Saxon soundscapes. It was one of my highlights 🙂
Mark Lund
Yep me too! Sadly that would mean going back a couple of years...1978! Keep dreaming, it will happen.
Graham Stokes
Thank you. So enjoyable and interesting. I appreciate your reflections on the experience and the potential for further information.
Wendy Sengpiehl
So happy to see all the Patreon volunteers having such a great time!
Jen Thirsk
Soo awesome to see Dr Sam..
Jonathan P Glass
To use a British expression, I'm so chuffed to be able to watch the Patreon volunteers working, and see their joy! I'll never be able to visit a dig, so seeing them, I get to live vicariously through them. Thank you Time Team and volunteers for a wonderful video!
Jakub Jůzl
Wow for something called a "week highlight" this has been an absolute blast! From content and camera work to editing. I hope Dani gets to enjoy Sutton Hoo as much as possible, if only as a reward for her amazing work for TT.
Richard Stanford
The carbon footprint of this dig must be huge with volunteers flying in from around the world.
Jo
I was there this afternoon and lucky enough to speak with Dani. Just magic. You’ve made an old woman very happy 😊
Ross Gibson
Can't stop talking about it. Trying to drum up Patreon support. Thanks for the fast response 😁
Time Team
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for taking part. It'll take a while to complete the finds-processing and post-ex, but we'll keep you posted on the outcome and publications when they become available.

Thanks to everyone for making all this information available to us. Wish I could have been there. Tina Gravatt, New Mexico, USA

Dang, it's lovely spending time with these folks. And it's also lovely to see the generosity of the organizers. Well done, and may you continue until there's no more knowledge left to be gained,
Ross Gibson
What an amazing 3 days experience. I have learned so much and was a chance of a lifetime to dig at Sutton Hoo. Dani or Carenza will the findings be published, where can we get access ; eventually?
Eelco Kruidenier
Thanks for showing this. Can't wait for more!
Dan Angelino
Huge thanks to National Trust, Time Team, and especially our fellow Patrons for making this happen. Truly an unforgettable experience, and an amazing group to work with. I'd gladly work with you all again!

This makes me want to be 18 more than ever! In the meantime I will continue to practice making test pits in my backyard. Never too early to start gaining skills…

Thank you Time Team and the National Trust at Sutton Hoo. I learned so much from everyone & everyone was so friendly. It was an amazing experience digging a test pit at Sutton Hoo with time team. Exhausting but so fantastic. Thank you everyone 😊 especially the rest of team test pit 7 😊

Nice to know Australia was represented amongst the Patreons. 👏
Nick Butt
Fame at last - even if it is of me bending over during field walking!
Martin Gibbs
I was quite excited when Carenza mentioned the Orox skull as it was me who first told her about the neolithic site nearby where they had found a ritually deposited Orox skull during the survey for the underground power cables required for the offshore windfarm.
Jason Mann
So pleased to see the bottom of our trench with water in it, I forgot to take a picture! There's proof now! I said it a few days ago, I'll say it again, thanks Time Team, it's a memory I'll treasure forever - I've the buzz to continue my archaeology adventure! Signed up to my local Archaeology Society to volunteer my assistance.
