Dig Watch | Norton Disney: Day One
🕑 Added 2024-10-05 16:55:47 +0000 UTCWithout further ado, here's Derek and Lawrence with highlights from our first day here at Norton Disney in Lincolnshire.
As you can see, it's been a hive of activity for the local community with many test pits getting underway across the village.
Join us again tomorrow evening for Day Two.
Don't forget: Dig Watch is your exclusive all access pass, behind the scences during the filming of a new episode. The full story and conclusions will be revealed following post-excavation analysis in the completed episode, to be released next year.

Thank you, Michele Makanui

Dr. Sophie Kay, Thank you for explaining everything to me. I enjoyed the Dig Watch, but I just couldn't figure it out. I look forward to seeing this video when completed. Debbie Fetsch

Hi Debbie, yes as Michele notes, the full story and conclusions will be revealed in the completed episode. What you have seen in the Dig Watch coverage is an exclusive look behind the scenes during the filming of the episode, direct from the field. Now, the post-excavation / post-production process begins, when finds are processed and analysed, various reports are written up and many hours of footage are reviewed. All of this is combined in order to deliver the final story, and to produce the reconstruction models, which rely on all that information. It's an intricate and time-consuming process, but exciting to see it all come together. (The final Winfarthing cemetery story, for example, was largely informed by Naomi's environmental analysis back in the lab.) We'll update you on any developments as they occur in the build up to the release. In the meantime, we still have some more coverage to come from Norton Disney, including a Q&A session with genealogist and ancestry expert, Dr Sophie Kay.

This isn’t the actual episode, it’s just a quick behind the scenes preview of what they’re doing and what has been found. The actual completed episode with all information comes out next year.
Debbie Fetsch
Is there going to be another video to explain everything you found and put it all together. What happened to the old Manor? You never found it. I never saw any of the geo physics with or from John Gator. It was confusing for me. This dig was collecting things to me, but for what? No explanation Before what you showed us and explained to us. We could see it coming together. You used to make me feel like an archaeologist. I was learning all the time.
Johnny Lees
Great to see everyone back together.
Time Team
Hi, no this is a brand new dig with all the coverage shot, edited, uploaded and posted direct from the field in Norton Disney this weekend!
Steve Gent
IS this not old? I remember one of the Disney clan on before?
Al Wood
Looking forward to following this dig.👍😉

I'm pretty sure "jeton" is French for "token". Those test pit banners are a nice innovation. We didn't have them at Sutton Hoo - but we did use the same "QR Code / Dropbox Upload" technique. Anyhow a nice first day.
Julied123
Thanks for this TT . I love all the background info.!

Everything's great! We've had a very exciting few days. Day Two is coming up in the next few hours, then Day Three will follow tomorrow. Keep a look out for the next post.
Melissa Rybb
Where's day two? It's Sunday. Is everything ok?
Robert Baker
Great to see everyone
Alex Schultz
really nicely done and fun :)
Felix Rowe
We'll be exploring the Disneys' ancestral links with Dr Sophie Kay - keep a look out across the coverage
Dyana Mason
Great dig watch!

"just three days" good stuff.
Patricia Amero
Watching from Canada, I'm always late to the party... but I wouldn't miss this for anything. Thank you all so much! 🦁
Tom Gooden
Such fun ! Wish I was there ! 😁

TT, Op Nightingale, and Waterloo Uncovered…now that would be a Trifecta. Phil, are you listening?🤠
Eggs Ackley
Dawn Hadley, a previous TT contributor, would be nice.
Bron Lloyd
Also loved how the editing had D and J drinking beer in the morning and then five minutes later planning lunch LOL (I’ve worked in telly and know how these things happen - still funny though!)
Bron Lloyd
Thanks so much for continually giving so much extra content to us! I *wish* more people would realise how wonderful TT Patreon is, I keep spreading the word, not sure any of my friends have joined yet! I’ve just started a new library job so I’ll be bending a few ears! Great to see both Naomi and Dani on site and look forward to their seasonal chat soon, I love their chats!
JUDITH COOKE
All the elements and personnel assembled for what looks like an exciting three days. Stewart was evidently off somewhere. Really looking forward to finding out what story comes out of this dig. Weather is great, so far. Love the small boy at the test pit consulting with Carenza. Have a great time everyone.
Larry Besel, Jr.
Thank you for this wonderful preview!
Michael Collins
What a brilliant idea to coordinate test pits and QR codes so objects can be uploaded and sorted on the main map as it happens, with all the details organized for later analysis.
Kerry Hennigan
Terrific. Really excites the appetite for more!
Theresa Cashin
Waiting for the team to unearth a medieval sarcophagus with Mickey carved into to the top!
Michael O'Connor
Looks like a great weekend. So worth the Patreon contributions each month. If could make one small request. I would love to see a Robin-like historian join the team. His deep knowledge on-hand was such a valuable and entertaining contribution. I know for a fact that there are British historians of that cut still out there!
Julianne Ture
Guessing – and only guessing – that as older structures disappeared new ones were built on the same lots. The original series included a number of episodes where the team investigated the traces of old buildings in medieval towns, and it often turned out that the property lots never really changed even if the buildings on them came and went.

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Love it.. have a good beer John

I don't want to research it on my own (in case it feels like a spoiler), but where did the medieval town go? All the houses look very 20th century... Curious to see how this turns out.
Kay Theriault
Very excited for this!
Steve Mikre
I really enjoy these Dig Watch episodes...
Eggs Ackley
Lovely to see all the old and new TT faces back in action. This dig will hopefully result in an archeological Fantasia🦁
Stephanie Hogan
Yay Dig Watch! I'm curious to know the history of the village, which looks like it's mostly mid 20th century homes, but on a classic medieval street plan. Development scheme?
Andy Woodhead
Great to see Richard Osgood working with Time Team - hopefully we will see some of his regular volunteers from Op Nightingale over the next couple of days. Great first day introduction!
Clive McIntyre
It's not a Mickey Mouse dig, but it didn't stop Derek & Lawrence from acting goofy! Groan :-)
Ian Fleming
Brilliant thanks
Carol Overrill
Now go and buy John a pint.
Janie Waters
It's funny how the boys didn't catch that the "lion" on the Time Team banners is the Lion King from the Disney film ... such a great giggle and I love that art. Kudos to Neil for that bit of good design work :)
Julianne Ture
Brilliant stuff. The Latin motto reminded me of Sir Tony’s intro to the Cunetio dig in series 17. 😁 https://youtu.be/zf6NFWMLpDE?feature=shared, at the 57-second mark.
Carl Johnson
That was an exciting teaser. I'm looking forward to seeing all the 3D renders from that fancy drone. Also, what is going to happen to that scaled map mockup with all the mini test pit flags?
Alan McMillan
Good to aee you all today!
Kevin
Looking forward to seeing the dig
