A relative has fished what appears to be a rusty ladle of some sort minus the handle out of a river. Would love to send you a couple of photos to see if Helen might be able to identify its purpose as we are stumped! It’s too big to be domestic but has no spout for pouring so wonder if it may be something industrial or from the brewing industry perhaps?

Love the Podcast. Thank you. Question regarding Sutton Hoo. Some mounds were robbed. Do we know when? We're some desecrated by the next generation. as in Egypt? I believe there is some evidence of both very early and much later intrusion. Is this correct? Cheers from South Australia.

Enjoyed this podcast, but honestly, I enjoy any news from Time Team and Helen. I was listening to another podcast by Dr. Bart Ehrman about his involvement in the discovery and publishing of the Gospel of Judas and was wondering if Helen or any of the other archeologist have every had a call out of the blue about some lost text / artifact from history that made them step back and go "What the F..?" for context the Gospel of Judas was reference in other ancient text, but the actual document wasn't known to exist and all of a sudden, a copy was found. Has that happened to any of the members of Time Team?

Question for an episode. Proper handling of removed soil and spoil heap. How do you organize it? Sift before it goes in? Each shovelful? Always sift? How fine is best sifting screen? Metal detection for each layer? Placement of heap? Individual heaps? Recording of heap finds? Flotation? Microanalysis? Etc. Bob Stokes

A question for a future episode: From the first episode of Time Team to the latest, there has been a tremendous evolution in the technology available. Ground radar has evolved, Lidar has much better resolution, and metal detectors have better sensitivity. On the documentation side, you have 3D-scans , the hand held nuclear backscatter device and a whole range of specialised gadgets. While my guess is that the newer technology is mostly a help during and after an excavation, have you ever been in a situation where, in hindsight, it turned out to be a hindrance, rather than a help?

Loved listening on my commute to work this morning. I so appreciate how Time Team has embraced the important role that a metal detector and detectorist can play in an archeological investigation. I have been watching Time Team for much longer than I have been using a metal detector, and for much longer than Time Team has had their own YouTube channel. I know that detectorists have had a bad name in the archaeological community probably since the invention of metal detectors. I also remember an episode where Tony mentions the use of metal detectors and asks about the reputation - "aren't metal detectors frowned upon by the archaeological community?" In the US, specifically in California where I live, it has been difficult to gain "private permissions" and there are more and more laws governing metal detecting, or the restriction of them, in public parks and open space "preserves". Some responses I have gotten explain that they would rather keep these items in the ground "for the people" than excavate them for preservation and education. It's counterintuitive to me seeing as how most of the items are wood and iron which will eventually disappear. Anyway, thank you for everything you all do! Time Team is my favorite thing to watch.
