I actually hit 1k or 1.5k on one project and then switch over. If I do 2k, that is generally all I'm writing that day (again, 2k average). It actually ends up on some writing days around 2.5k but then there are weekends and sick days (like today) that drive it around. For marketing stuff, I'm in the position of having contractors and employees who do my marketing. So my (personal) number is much lower than someone else who might not have my advantages.

Hah. Yeah. Most of us survive because we have a backlist. The initial book can be quite worthwhile, but it dies off. It's the backlist, which pays the regular bills in-between. For me, with over 45 books, even if each one sells a book a day (3 * 45) that's $135. Still not great, but I do a little better than that for some (and a lot worse for others).

This was super interesting, since I tend to like knowing other authors’ writing routines. I’m amazed you can work on more than one project each day. I’m trying to do that (work on books in two difference series each day) but it’s hard. I feel rather drained after finishing writing a 2000 word chapter each day and don’t want to work on the other book. How many hours each day do you work on marketing stuff?

I think I'd have to make a lot of money off a book to make it worthwhile financially.
