What I'm wondering about the Vetterli, why didn't they chopped down the barrel to make it lighter? In other words, shorter. Sure, they would need to readjust the sights and what not. But they would need to do that anyway when rechambering it in the new caliber (6.5?), My guess it's because Italy was in a rush to get these fielded. But seriously, even if it's out of date it has to at least cut it down to size.
