Best episode yet. I think you identified upfront the main issue, which was secrecy led to limited trial and hence limited feedback. While an evolutionary dead end for firearm development, I'm one of those that think that failures offer important lessons. Much of what the Pedersen offered in utility came to fruition in the M1 carbine, which itself was an oddity compared to arms fielded by others.

Somehow I get the feeling some junior officer involved in the testing or chain of command for plans for fielding the Pedersen device had worked his way up the military career path & was in the right place at the time they wrote up the requirement for the .30 carbine right b4 WW2... ;-D

Awesome video. I think the mystique around the device is partly due to the fact that they never actually saw service in the field. If they would have, some of the flaws in the design would've caused reliability issues that would've gotten people killed.

One question I was hoping to have answered is how this worked from a rifled barrel standpoint. Does the devices barrel have rifling? How does the bullet go from the device rifling to the rifles rifling? Great episode as usual!!!
