The plan was to leave Thirsday at 8am for a 12 hourish drive.We made it as far as Pooler Georgia before the steering suddenly decided to go soggy enough to be undriveable.It took until 5pm to have a shop swap the steering gear and shaft, both obviously warn. This tightened the mess up just enough for us to hit the highway as every shop in the region was closing for the day.Trouble is the core problem remained, just muffled. So driving required a bit of a learning curve and CONSTANT micro adjustment.Well, we made it into LA 4am, 5am from our origin. Sadly as the most skilled wacky cab driver, I got to drive all but 100 miles of it. At 100% focus. 2 hours of sleep later I have dropped the truck off at an alignment shop, called in some transport favors, and am waiting with some plantain chips I found on foot at a tienda.Thank you patrons because for all this effort and determination, at some point I have to pay the bills on this mess. You guys make that possible $1 at a time.Now if only my body could stop trying to unconsciously sway with the car I am no longer white knuckle steering.Comments

So you looked like you were driving in a movie from the 40s. I had a ‘50 Olds 88 with a bad steering box. Really had to anticipate any turn, about like a sailing ship,

Nah, it's actually never broken down until now. I've just been pro-actively improving it and not ignoring issues. I even tried to have this issue repaired as I sorta sensed it in the handling last week. Was told "nah it's fine" by the mechanics. huh. Overall investment has been about on the money for the size/comfort/low profile. Plus being the most oversold fleet vehicle ever means spare parts anywhere any time.

That truck just really wants to give up the ghost. Ever since the beginning of filming I pretty much remember it being a constant problem. Hopefully it 'straightens' out and stops giving you guff, or you may have to place it on the machine gun range.

Othias, having y’all educate us in something we’re truly interested in learning about is privilege at least for me. I️ am literally on a fixed income, and y’all’s efforts are much appreciated, I️ just wish I️ could do more! (And if some strange characters appear in this post, I️ would really like it if Apple would correct the bug in their latest iOS roll-out, but alas that’s not something you could fix.) Be careful driving, enjoy shooting those old machine guns that most of us will never have the opportunity to experience and thanks for the information. BTW, I️ for one really appreciate the long, info-packed posts, as in most cases, this is info I’d be hard-pressed to obtain and put in context. Once again, be careful.

When roadtrips turn rough it always hurts, Know that we all very much appreciate the effort you're going to to show us the WW I stuff with the fun-switches and are happy to keep supporting you doing this. Lets hope that the return trip is less white-knuckle and you can catch some z's sometime soon.
