Thanks to you all, just picked one up, real gem. All apart now getting the once over and cleaned. Thanks to Eric, made some 43 Mauser and hope to shoot later this week. BTW, just got the posters I ordered, really nice.

Crokay balls aren't that small....
Greg Stachowski
You mean Ludwig Loewe? That name has already come up a lot on this show, it was the company behind the Luger pistol amongst other things and invested heavily in Mauser.

The age of transition is my favorite as well, which is why I have a shelf full of dies for cartridges most people have never heard of......and CH-4D's number is on speed dial. To delve very far into this era, one needs to set aside about one-third of your available collecting money just to afford the more obscure dies and bullet molds. That said, it is still cheaper than chasing a little round ball around an over manicured lawn.
Andrew MacDougall
agreed. if I had the money and space to keep them I would SOOO collect the "transition era."

@ ~29:15 -- Say what? Hey Othais, do you think you can write the actual name down in a reply to this post? Or were you intentionally obfuscating the name to keep a surprise in store for a later episode?

My favorite era of firearms development. No one quite sure exactly what technology will win out, or even what basic doctrine is "right" for riflemen. Look at the variety of weapons in service in, say, 1880-1890 - and how quickly things changed.

Agreed. Born in a very short "era"

this gun almost feels like a transitional fossil. it's kinda odd, and a step forward, but really didn't go farther.

We appreciate it!
And by historical I mean specifically the pre-smokeless powder veriety, I have a no4mk1 and an 03a3 but I wish I could go back further than that
Man I wish I had the infrastructure to reload, then I can own and shoot historical rifles... Every so often you feel just a slight pang of sadness when you only own modern Firearms
yes. it did :)
