Wednesday Review: Better Late

1. I always seem to be just behind the first shot on things. I gave the Project Lightening link to you all, did some late night work, went to bed, woke up and dig more house work and finally posted the video promotion. All my comments were that Ian already released a poster that day.
I can't be sure it affected sales but they are fairly flat so far.

2. This week was insanely busy because I had a guest in town and a personal family event. Managed a range day in there though so now instagram is going to be full of little videos for a week. I will probably start throwing them on the main channel too for fun.
3. I took an Australian to Outback Steakhouse for a laugh. The waitress thought Australians talked like pirates. I also learned they have "musk" flavored candy. It tastes like how grandmas smell.
4. I impulse bought a gun for the first time since launching the show. Literally ever firearm purchase for the past 4 years has been weighed in terms of value to production, resale, etc. But this time, I wandered into a local shop on the way to a non-production range day. One where I already had 454 ball and blackpowder revolver doodles waiting... and I saw a Colt-made Walker for the price of one of the current Italian jobs.
Given our budget stretch I can't do that again this year but it was so worth it to surprise Mae. Who immediately shot some ridiculous 3" group at 30 feet one handed. I hate her sometimes.
5. Who makes the best pistol caliber lever action out there today? I'm going to start saving to split Suzie's birthday present with someone.
6. Our discord server seems sort of complicated to me so I need to reduce it down but we have a volunteer admin who knows what all the buttons do and I think he likes all the craziness. However, more people are joining and chatting, so that's good.
7. Our printer got swiped and his van totaled. He broke a rib. I wish him the fastest recovery for both sympathetic and business reasons.
8. I test shot two Spencer shotguns with RST loads. Both ran great, tons of fun. Unfortunately RST never acknowledge my email to them so I don't think they will want to be a collaborator in the next show.

All right gang, sorry for the late update. I lost track of what day it was. I've been learning a new method in photoshop and I THINK I have worked out some pretty cool designs. Here's the tentative preview of 3 designs. I have to work out a 4th one though.

FWIW, that Colt repro Walker *is* one of the Italian jobs [as I understand, Uberti did all the parts, shipped them to Colt, who did final fit & finish: Colt hadn't had the tooling to make them for oh, a century or more, and since Val Forgett had originally talked the Italians into making the repops by supplying them with originals to work from, it's as close as Colt was going to get to their own original product after all those years anyway...] Still, I bet it's a beauty! Looking forward to seeing it in an upcoming "Minute of Mae!" ;-D

Both my marlin new production 1894's (44Mag, and 1894CST) have so many sharp edges on so many random surfaces, I get to play "that's an interesting spot to bleed from" every range firing session and cleaning session. No idea about the Henry. The Marlins were bought specifically due to a sale and gift cards (for the 44) and for suppressed use (the 1894-CST). The suppressed lever gun with subsonic 38's is such a hoot
I too am partial to the Henrys. Word on the street is they're even starting to make some with a kings gate. Haven't handled any of the Italian ones for comparison though. I've also got a Winchester 94 Carbine in .44 Magnum thats a lot of fun.

Love the poster, but I only have so much wall space. Now I can always wear a T-shirt.
Well, since Magnum Research makes a revolver in .45-70 Govt., I'd pair that with a Henry lever-action in the same calibre. :-)

Only pistol caliber carbine I have is a Ruger 77/357. But I absolutely love it. Being a bolt action has its advantages as well. I use it for everything from rabbits with .38 spl wadcutters to deer with 158gr XTP's. and hot handloads.

I like Henry's as well because they are American made. But best? I'd say Big Horn Armory has to be up there. One of their levers in .500 S&W is definitely on the list.

In re #5 I'm sure many will advocate for the Henry but I LOVE my 1894 CB Marlin in .45LC. Yes, I've done a little work on it to smooth things up internally and added a (spent) primer to the front sight for quick sight alignment, etc but my bought used Marlin has digested several thousand of my grandkids with nary a hiccup while delivering as much accuracy as my seventy plus year old eyes can handle.

Best is subjective. I love my 357 Uberti 1873, but a Marlin CST, if it doesn't rust, or a gate equipped Henry would definitely be more versatile and durable.

Another thought: Now that Ian has become involved a book printing company, have you and Mae ever given consideration to a coffee table book using the gorgeous light box pictures of the weapons y'all have covered? I for one love looking at detailed and marvelously shot photos in a physical format. Not sure if that would be a relatively quick work up of an idea and/or profitable. Just an idea.

The Marlin 1894 csbl is my favorite piltol caliber levergat. .357 chambered, comes with good sights already and has a rail for whatever optics you want on top of that
