I think that’s a tad pedantic. I understand that at the time Germany still wasn’t a unified state. However speaking now in context as a historian based in a separate subject, referring to a place in the modern nomenclature, I think we can easily overlook it for the sake of ease and convenience.

I'm I the only one that finds it is ironic that the name "Madsen" is associated with the first adopted shouldered auto rifle at the turn of the century and then the last adopted general issue bolt action in the form of the M47?

I disagree it was seven years before German unification and there was several major wars between 1864 and 1871. Calling it Germany at the time would be like calling the entire North American continent the USA

Enh, the second war was basically during and around the unification anyway, and predominantly prosecuted by the whole of the German states. I think short-handing it as "Germany" is reasonable given the show is about firearms history in the Great War and not the various European gongshows prior to that.

Tiny nitpick but surely the Schleswig-Holstein war was between Denmark and Prussia/Austria. Germany didn't exist as a state till 1871

Really enjoyed this. The Madsen was referred to as "the virgin" because she was tricky and hard to dance with. "Virgin Madsen" was her unofficial name throughout her service life. Or well, that would have been "Jomfru Madsen", but you know.

I’ve noticed a lot of episodes recently are sticking to around an hour. Has that become a sort of unspoken rule and that’s why this is a two parter instead of a Mosin length episode? Or is it just due to the stacking of the information? Love the episode I’ve been looking forward to this one! Cheers!
