Thank you all for the support through this... I'm not sure what to call it. Shake awake?
We're still overwhelmingly funded by Patrons and merchandise. I think our experimentation to court YT ads is, frankly, over regardless.

Shit Burner and Honey Dipper are the terms.

There is an algorithm/analytic for security cameras in development that visually detects pistols that have been drawn and not those in a holster. Interesting and worrying at the same time. This was on Smarter Every Day if I remember correctly. Youtube may have developed something similar for their videos.
Mr. Lee
It took a while to listen to this one, obviously a fan and supporter. I did bump support brackets, but to be honest it came at the cost of supporting other channels. During the "shake-awake" I evaluated what I subscribe to and realized that I was justifying small monthly support based on entertainment and participation. I came to the conclusion that your channel is currently the only one I frequently watch that I feel is worth supporting just for the content.
Chris Marchi
U are the man...and she is the woman...u guys rock
Bruce Brodnax
It's a Southern thing. She's obviously been keeping a lid on it for the camera, I haven't heard her say "All y'all" yet, so she hasn't gone full Mason-Dixon on us...
Richard Anderson
I find the formula for stress relief from the 60's still works...to quote a phrase of the times "drugs, sex and rock and roll" (of course the drugs of choice in my age group is Viagra and beer).

YT mechanics are, to put it diplomatically, even more flawed than the Imperial Japanese Navy's high command in 1942. Mesa poor, so $1 is all I can do, but y'all deserve it. I learned so, so so much from C&Rsenal, and it's helped me with my own hobby, which is writing stories in which some of those guns often feature.
Brian Foster
I have no problem keeping my Patreon contribution consistent at $10 to C&R and $3 to Mark. From a YouTube point of view, now that you are re-monetized, it is helpful to sit through the advertisements? Some of them are five minutes or more long. Right now, I"m letting them run.
Erik
I'd have a steam-powered cell phone if I could, so can't properly fathom the You Tube mechanics, but is it possible to court funding from outfits that would have an interest in your show for the interest it generates in their wares - Brownells, Sarco, Numrich, IMA, etc..., and plug them with a forward to your show such as you see on PBS: C&Rsenal has been made possible by Bob's Guns, the Letter F, and Viewers Like YOU?
James McKenzie
Trever Talbert is within a day's drive of Charleston and has the distinction of having had one of his Halloween pipes become a meme. Great guy, old car guy, and absolutely hilarious. http://www.talbertpipes.com

I think Ian had said, a third party had approached him about repackaging the videos and that it wasn't a focus for him
John S Wren
Here's a thing. I've been working away and haven't had time or energy to check in on the situation. I got back a few hours ago and thought I'd see what was going on. My wife, who has no particular interest in historic firearms, told me you'd been remonetised. Turns out she "was worried about Othais and Mae so wanted to see what what was happening". I'm not sure what this means - but you've really made an impression out there!
Christopher Dooley
"I have always thought of Mae as C&Rsenal's version of Top Gear's STIG, but with valuable opinions. "---This is a very good analogy.
Gunner Dupree
I'm still giving you my $5 a month, I'm glad to hear your monetized again, but I hope my extra $5 a month with everyone else, allows you guys to can expand and make better videos.

Sorry, too many years in tech, Amazon Web Services. https://aws.amazon.com

In your comments about selling Mae as shooter first and female second. I have always thought of Mae as C&Rsenal's version of Top Gear's STIG, but with valuable opinions. I don't know if it was ever discussed in the past but i would imagine that if we compared the men who carried these rifles in the first world war to Mae. They would much closer in height and weight than if we compared to men of today humans have changed a lot in 100 years, we are much taller and fatter . I think for us to truly understand the historical context of these rifles we need to look not only of the rifles them selves but also the issued gear and the stature of the people who used them. A lot of topics which are outside of the context of C&Rsenal. At either rate thank you everyone at C&Rsenal for all the work you have done. I'm personally glad that i have a better job now so that i can support your great work on making firearms history more accessible.
Paul Herbert Varga
I also smoke a pipe
Peter Starr
Yeah, I think the cigarettes are designed as especially addictive delivery systems. A fast strong uptake with multiple units lined up.
Johnathon Akers
Heard about the demonetization issue, decided to join as a patron.
C&Rsenal
We appreciate the help. Thank you.
C&Rsenal
I have never actually had a cigarette weirdly enough. I also just sorta forget about my pipe for months at a time. I guess I don't have the addiction.
C&Rsenal
AWS?
Richard Anderson
My monthly donation has virtually nothing to do with YouTube monetized policy one way or the other. I view your channel as a public service....period. As for Mae, any woman smiling while shooting a machine gun is sexy as hell! Now about beard maintenance.....not so much.
C&Rsenal
Flexible fat guys?
C&Rsenal
We appreciate it and promise to do our utmost to remain consistent in both quality and quantity.
C&Rsenal
best job.
C&Rsenal
yes
C&Rsenal
We did try that but they have weird rules about referencing outside material, links, descriptions, etc. Our episodes are riddled with those.
Arturo Ceron
You can have affiliate links that don't violate YouTube's policies. In the video description you can link to a page on C&R's website, and put the links to your affiliates there. That way there's no direct marketing from your YT video post. You just say in the video "Clink the link in the video description, and you'll find links on that page." There are plenty of firearms content channels on YT that use affiliate links from Brownells and other firearms companies in that way.
Peter Starr
I wish I could still smoke a pipe. I grew up with the smell and loved a pipe beside the fire on my canoe trips. Too dangerous for getting back on the cigarettes though.
C&Rsenal
Mane and tail. Also a hairbrush and whatever food misses my mouth.
C&Rsenal
rofl. Careful what you wish for...
C&Rsenal
By all means, message us any findings. I'm always curious.
C&Rsenal
Thank you for the support. We'll use it judiciously
C&Rsenal
I use mine very infrequently. But the stress of the current situation demanded some release.
C&Rsenal
Good thing I never shut up!
C&Rsenal
It has been an extreme compliment and, honestly, very refreshing to see we had untapped market potential. Whether it is fun to think about or not, the budget is how we get work done.
C&Rsenal
Sometimes when we get a tobacco that we're not super keen on to smoke, we'll just use it as potpourri
C&Rsenal
I honestly would never recommend more than $3. if we had $1 from every regular viewer I could easily expand the show and get more done! We'll gladly accept a little extra here and there while the others catch up.
C&Rsenal
It is definitely a frustration realizing we're so easily booted around.
C&Rsenal
A buck is all we'd ever ask!
C&Rsenal
I have considered creating a mailbag system. It's just a matter of separating it from the usual messages and comments.
C&Rsenal
Thank you, luckily it is no longer a dire need!
C&Rsenal
Woop
C&Rsenal
Yes. Another advantage of an independent Anvil is that is no longer has to be as careful as Primer, which can't put itself into a controversial position or we'll risk our association with certain museums etc.
C&Rsenal
That's fine, we're honestly happy with any level of support. It's not exaggeration that $1-2 per regular viewer and we'd never worry about production!
C&Rsenal
Thank you for the support and the commitment. We'll do our best to keep earning it!
Alden Skinner
Patreon is maxed out on both you guys and Mark, and, barring getting run over by a beer truck, will remain so. What you both do has become essential to me. On the platform side, would AWS provide a way to spin up an alternative route? And YES to PDFs!
General Jack Ripper
Congratulations. You are now part of a very small minority.
PoindexterG
I’ve got a total amount I spend on various channels at Patreon. And I want to keep all my subscriptions within that amount. I’ve had one channel (not going to name names, but it’s not a firearms channel) that has really gone downhill a lot. They put out less videos, stopped putting any content on patreon, stopped responding to the patrons. I’d decided I was going to drop my subscription there. And right about the time I decided I was stopping it, C&Rsenal got demonetized. So it seemed a good time to up my support. And as long as you guys don’t drop off the map like that channel, I’ll keep supporting.
Robin Roberts
Scoff scoff scoff
Adam Williams
Mae says "ya'll" a lot lol
Geoff Lamb
I only upped from $0 to $1 but it was definitely a kick up the backside to remind me I need to support the people who make the shows I consume
Phil Byrd
Have you looked at Amazon? I saw old episodes of Forgotten Weapons packed into groups there.
David Burnham
So a non firearm related question: What are your "go to" beard care products?
Lynn Phillips
Your explanation of how the advertisers are the driving force in this opened my eyes. I want to now run this by some consultants I know on the buying side to learn what they think.
Phil Byrd
Just cause i can now, THIS IS NOT A 1911 episode
chris
About 15 between you guys and Mark is going to be a long term thing.
Chris Crowther
Their usual excuse is that they don't want to give people too much information, because they'll use it to work around their policies. Which is a bullshit response. If your system is only robust through obscurity, then it's not robust at all.
Planescaped
I used to smoke a pipe for 8 years... god I miss it. Except I didn't use filters as they seemed questionably effective, maybe they are, as my lungs really didn't like it near the end,.. still miss it, :P
Gerald Drake
I also like listening to the long winded explanations and rambles it's great background listening while I'm at work.
Jeff Pleimling
If there is a good side to this it is the new Patreon supporters. This incident made me finally joined Patreon and started supporting the people who made content I regularly watch. I had been meaning to do it for a while (even had my wife's blessing), but there always seems to be something else to do.
Wayne Dygert
Want to bring down your current government? Start a rumour they're going to begin a carbon tax on each exhalation (carbon dioxide). On second thought, best not to give them any more ideas...
Kenneth Marshall
Thanks for all you do - Also the smell of a pipe and old guns (cosmo) is the most wonderful aroma! I started working in a gunsmith shop at 14 yo and boss smoked a pipe - I'm not sure why there isn't a scented air freshener in this flavor!
Jackson Darr
I can't speak for anyone else, but I upped from $1 to $10 I intended it to stay there. That's not just for one year, either. I consider it permanent.
Wayne Dygert
Glad to hear you've been reinstated through whatever means. Can't imagine the level of consternation you must feel at the degree of opacity exhibited by you tube bureaucracy in terms of playing field rules...
Stuart Burton
I will keep up my increased contribution for 12 months can't guarantee it after that but I will always be at least a buck a month. Problem is in Britain you pay tax on the contribution.
James G. Jones
So tonight was actually a "Pipecast" and not a podcast?..lol I enjoy listening to these videos and I don't find them boring when I am at work. Have yall considered at the end of the podcasts, maybe taking time to answer a few questions from people that been sent to you?
Derek Putley
Thanks folks. Good to hear your monetization is back. Let's hope it stays that way.
Peter Thomas
Great news
William Kreh
Well this is good news if not for the funding it provides then for the message in general. Glad to hear it and glad for the clarity it brought you in hind sight. You have mentioned Anvil getting it's own channel. Great idea and I hope there will be extensive announcements of the new channel name and other information as soo as it is known.
C&Rsenal
It's warm here!
C&Rsenal
That's one approach. Honestly I just couldn't see myself engaging with the reporting tools unless someone was committing a legitimate crime. It's so easy to just not watch things!
C&Rsenal
Clear skies and even seas are always welcome.
C&Rsenal
I'm certainly happy to just focus on the job.
C&Rsenal
Thank you!
C&Rsenal
Thank you for the long service!
C&Rsenal
It's definitely an approach that does not work on a macro scale with a wide variety of creators.
jhaykhay25
I'm a history person. Love your content. But... History YT channels among many others are being hit badly so my support is spread out among a few channels. I will continue with my upped donation but I don't want to see other channels go down either. Thanks for your hard work, it's much appreciated!
Sean Smith
My Patreon level for C&Rsenal are completely comfortable for me until the end of times. I did increase my Anvil level, but that went up to a level that I am also very comfortable with. I will continue to support both channels at the minimum of the current levels, because I feel that I get at least that much entertainment . Please continue, I enjoy the content quite a bit, and thanks for the awesome content.
Austin Minder
5 degrees outside in south Wisconsin and I'm listening to crickets, kinda cool.
James McKenzie
I don't know that it helped any, but I spent a solid 2hr of waiting room time going through rap videos and action movie clips and reporting anything that had a gun firing in it as offensive violence. I figured if you were already demonetized that it couldn't hurt and if, in aggregate, all of the studio-sponsored content got autoflagged as permissible, that a rising tide might lift *all* boats. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
David Falbo
Awsome to hear! Hopefully it stays this way, 🤞 fingers crossed 🤞
Ted Weldon
Great to hear, I'm in for the year. Have to support what you love.
Ethereal
My patreon pledge was consistent for 3 years until I retired. So now my pledge is lower but still consistent.I enjoy the show and I'm particularly pleased with the no politics stance.I've used Mae's shooting example (body size, physical build)as a recoil guide for my adult daughters for trying some of my different firearms.
Charles Adams
Othias, Mae, the way you describe of "doing business" certainly isn't an exclusively "Southern Thing" its been my experience that what happened to you in your 'negotiations' happens in either family-based organizations or in organizations very poorly run regardless of where their antecedents. Now there are people who prefer this type of operation for its lack of accountability, but no matter what the origins, it's infuriating due to lack of accountability. Now, the family or "southern thing" being "family" (in the broadest sense) ultimately has accountability built-in. The whole idea of the lack of accountability being unconscious or in the case of YouTube probably intentional brings a lot of power to the organization. Also, those tree frogs types down east cn get pretty good sized, maybe due to the size of the flying cockroaches Down-East.
Tom Owen
That is great!!! It would be nice to know what triggered the de-monetization!!! Regardless this is great news!!!
C&Rsenal
That is the sticking point for me. At some point we were reviewed by a human, I am assured. So why not a timestamp, video link, or some other quantifiable that we can work with?
C&Rsenal
Correct.
Chris Hamlin
Congrats. It's a shame Youtube is so unresponsive to creators.

Well that's great news... for now...
