WRT the "fewer cap jams back in the day," that is entirely plausible since they were using soft copper caps vs. the brass cups [or even soft iron: iirc, Duellist1954 was waxing irked in one of his vids about encountering such things during this most recent ammo & possibles drought?] used today...

It was the perfect set up for a VPN or online data backup. Carbonite was what popped up in my head, but it works for NordVPN too. A Nebula or Utreon plug would have fit too, with how much YT disappear non cat videos. What would happen with the algorithm if Minute of Mae included cat footage?

If it's the NRK-link it could be because some of the content on NRK is only avalible to norwegian ip-adresses, I didn't think about that when I posted the links. We have a hard time getting the Continental percussion revolvers here, because 1) Nobody makes repops & 2) a huge number of U.S. percussion firearms were shipped to Yurp for the Franco-Prussian war, which led to the demand for repops of them here during the centennial of the CW, which pretty much *created* the reproduction market [thank you, Val Forgett & Navy Arms!] I think the CapandBall channel on YT is your best bet if you want to see European percussion arms, since he can shoot originals that are still in circulation there...

Super appreciating you doing things like this, but I really wonder if it wouldn't make more sense to just make a separate corrections video and link it with an annotation/card/whatever-they're-doing-nowadays from the main video, as that would probably keep the algorithm happier.

Nice episode, I like percusion revolvers. On the subject of old revolvers, the oldest one I have seen is one held at Maihaugen collection. Acording to the museum, it was made in 1597 by Hans Stopler of Nürnberg, and brought to Norway by Major general Georg Reichwein in 1636. Been eagerly awaiting this series. First you assemble your caps, balls, wads, powder, powder measure, powder flask, ball starter, ramrod, lube, loading stand, capping tool, nipple wrench, nipple pick, and oh yeah the gun. Now we go through our checklist: is this the right size cap, the right granluation of powder, the correct charge of powder, the right size and weight of ball, the proper degree of compression on the charge? Then Mae hits a 9" target at 60 yards with a Patterson.. .Offhand! Something I'd be hard pressed to accomplish from a rest with my Walker. Fun?!

this looks like it will be a fun series. I would love to see this expand to black powder cartridges (with accompanied development in revolvers) and that would set you up to go into a nightmare of acquisition and research for a series on the transition to smokeless and automatics.

The wad and gr.ease have nothing to do with flash over. Over sized lead balls leaving a ring of lead sealed the chamber and prevented flash over. Flash over occurs at the nipples Check Duelist 1954 on YouTube. On the Patterson I might put the caps on before loading the cylinder. ETA: capping first probably wouldn't work pressing the ball into the cylinder would pop the cap off the back.

we laugh, but my tenant pays his rent each month on horseback, and carries a walker and a remington navy. Uses them, too. I would be lying if I didn't admit that I've carried my original remington navy conversion (yeah, I like nifty crass cartridges) as an EDC for an event a few times for spectacle purposes.
